Has anyone on here built one? I have Googled it a few times and all I can ever find is the original stuff published on the web when the car first appeared, even the Westfield site content does not seem to have changed for yonks? are they still available?

When I saw one reviewed on Top Gear thought it would be a winner, but looks like it didnt really take off?

Isn't it an old design repackaged by Westfield?

I believe a Radical is a lot better and used ones don't seem to cost the earth.

The XTR2 was a new design, mid mounted hyabusa engine with chain drive.

The XTR4 was a redesign of the XTR2 with audi turbo engine, but I've not heard much about the XTR4's recently. I've only seen three, not sure how many more there were of them.

That's what I thought, the Westfield XTR2 was a new design, at the time the Radical was already around and a tried and tested formula, I guess the XTR2 is the only kit you can build yourself that comes anywhere near the performance of a Radical so would actually work out quite a bit cheaper that the latest new Radicals, but presumably with some compromises as it is designed to be easily made street legal.

Having said all that, Im still very surprised more kit car builders have not gone down this route, last time I looked at the price im sure it was in the low teens, not including Hyabusa lump, more that a westfield - seven clone with a similar engine, but still good value surely?

By the way, I'm not on a comission to Westfield tying to boost sales, I just fancy building something in the near future and thought the XTR2 sounds like a good idea just wondered why more have not been built.

Having driven both, and been fortunate enough to be invited to MIRA when westy were developing this car - I was driven round the circuit by their factory driver back to back their other 7 type model) - I have to say, rapid though it is, it's not as much fun to drive as the 7 type cars.

It was a chunk quicker than my Megabird, but wasn't anywhere near as much fun in terms of driver involvement. The only way to describe it was that the XTR felt more like a tool for simply going fast, whereas the mega cars are designed for fun first and speed second. I suspect this is also a personal preference thing though, as you either love downforce on a track day car or you don't. Personally I don't get it TBH.

PH'er deadscoob built one, and used to run an XTR2 website, but I think it is dead now.

Off to a trackday right now, Happy to answer any questions I can when I'm back in a few days. biggrin

And no I'm not 'associated' with Westfield other than the fact that I bought their demonstrator and imported it into New Zealand after seeing it on Top Gear driving

I am aware of 10 cars that have been built.

I think that they are much more extreme on the road than a typical seven type car which accounts for the limited numbers.

I am surprised though that Westfield never promoted it more.

I was seriously looking to build one of these and was hounding Westfield based on the early prices and photos. Got to the ordering stage and they added VAT to the price which hadn't been mentioned thus far... that was the death for that project - built an R1 Fury instead and probably had much more fun wink

I'm sure the ADR is worth a mention, http://www.adr-engineering.co.uk/, its been constantly developed but maybe too track focused.

There was a nice guy near me who lived in Forestdale, Croydon who was building one of these XTR2's about 3 years ago. I am pretty sure he had all the components just had to build it, but I have never seen the car about? He had a TVR too if I recall, and drove a Megablade before the XTR2 build. Are you on here???

I agree with Rhinochopig regarding his comments. Once after driving my Furyblade around Brands for about 5 hours I had a go in a Radical SR4, 1500cc 250bhp on slicks. It was mindblowing, but adrenalin rush aside the first thing i thought was that i did not want one. It was SOOOOO fast with the Aero through the bends and developing serious G, but the speeds at which you felt and real involvment were so high that an accident would be huge and expensive. Half the 12 laps were spent passing slower cars, lining them up from several hundred yards! Amazing performance but not for trackdays, as the speed differntial in performace particularly over things like tintops was scary and frustrating. Of course, the minute you raise the rideheight to 5 inches and bolt on 48R's for road use the the performance will drop dramatically, "roughly" to that of a Megabusa or Phoenix ZX12 ect. (Witness the 2 Radicals in RGB that DIDN'T clean up, as was expected) So maybe that is why they did not catch on, as a road biased car they did not offer a significant performance advantage. They do look damn good though.

hello adrenalin lover's

Salutations from Angola. Has u can see im new here, but as soon has i found this forum for all speed fanatics i got interested and here i am.

Well i got some questions for all the experts in this forum and i hope u can help me. Here in Angola the Radical's are beating all the competition, do u think that a XTR2 can beat them or at least give them some fight?Do u know any car that can beat those really quick bds? I read a very small article about a Car that i think its called Phaser G, did u ever heard anything about it, where can i get more information about it? The only thing i know is that it has Front wheel drive wich is not good against the radicals, and that its a cheap and fun car to race.

I got really interested when i saw the Westfield site, but the site doesn't have many information about the car. How much time do u think u need to spend to build one ( average ), whats the difference in costs from a factory built XTR2 and the Kit? If u increase the power of the Susuki motor do u think the chassi will handle it?

Thanks a lot for all your help

Radicals are probably quicker around a track than an xtr2 because better aero package - but not by much. XTR about 1/2 the price new though.

Chassis will handle more power. A few turbo cars knocking around

We had a 2 and a 4. The 2 was more intense, would leave you exhausted after a trackday. Like the Radical comments, the speed differential between these and most other track day metal is huge, and it could get very frustrating because you were always "held up", and if you're not going fast enough, they're not actually that much fun - on track. Mega type cars feel much softer, are not as extreme.

The 4 was a more rounded package, wasn't as intense but it was easily usable on the road, was probably as quick on track and is a nice ownership proposition I feel. Bodywork not only looks better but front and rear are fully removable, in the 2 there is only a large inspection hatch.

I heard Westie were repackaging the 4 with a different engine, perhaps a vtec, that would make a lovely toy.

Think 4s are factory built only though, not kit?

Now they've been developed a bit, both are nice like cars.
