It seems that Totalkitcar.com are going into the publishing business.

They are launching a mag, out on 4th Dec.

There is a little information on the www.totalkitcar.com website, but not a lot. Tell us more Steve.

Reading the site, do you think it's going to be a regular publication, or just a one-off?!

If I end up spending much more on magazines, my project will get put back even further!

As Steve contacted me recently to ask if I'd be interested in doing some work for him, I do know he has a few 'exclusives' lined up for the first issue.

Steve's understandably playing things close to his chest with this at the moment, so don't expect much detail from him just yet.

Considering Den Tanner's current obsession with slagging off Peter Filby and Filby's antics regarding promotion of 'his' kit cars, I think both the market and the industry might welcome an alternative kit car magazine.

Guess we'll find out in December...

My understanding is that it’s a

“TOTALKITCAR ALMANAC”

Steve has spoken to tombs about it being advertised in Kit Car as of the January 2004 issue.

My understanding is that’s it’s a broadly equivalent publication to my annual “Kit Car Guide”. If that’s so, I don’t have a problem with it.
If it’s a prelude to something more “regular” then perhaps there’s some competition on the horizon.

I don’t have any problem with honest competition, and would enjoy an honest and healthy sparring with a new ‘sparring partner’.

Frankly, I don’t think there’s room for 3 kit car titles (remember that the political problems began when I sold KCI, the third title, to Mr Filby).

Quite honestly, if Steve does start a new title, I’d be willing to help him ensure that he rapidly established second place on the grid.

and no doubt that would be you using your magazine to slag Which Kit off and promote the new mag precisely the opposite of what we'd all like to see.

Can somebody interpret?
I really thought we’d moved on.
I thought decisions were made regarding the nature and style of such coverage.
Of course I would not actively promote a competing title (except maybe on a normal paid advertising basis).
Anyway. It’s all hypothetical unless Steve Hole comes bouncing inin to give us certain news.

I don't want to start up the old Kit car v Which Kit? thing again, it has been done to death, BUT to be fair to Den all I think he has tried to do is expose dubious practices whereby somebody is featuring advertisments and pushing products where they have a vested financial interest, but keeping quiet about it.

Den has admitted that the production quality of WK is superior, and is determined to improve the quality of his Mag in an effort to at least equal his rival.

Whether the market will stand another publication would have to be seen, personally I doubt it, there is only enough of the cake to go round, having said that there must be over twenty titles devoted to motorbikes of one sort or another, but by it's very nature the kit car market is a very specialised one.

Anyway, why would Den want to "promote" any newcomer? it would not make any commercial sense, unless it was
simply to spite PF and I can't see even Den being that vindictive....... (on second thoughts)

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do.

Did I? I certainly do agree with the second half, and that includes formulating a more socially acceptable way of addressing the problem above.

I doubt it too. Indeed, many of the problems which exist PROBABLY have their root in the pond being too small as it is.

Supersixfan, you’ll never know what your words have done…………

no docevi1 isn't shit stirring, docevi1 got sick of reading all the posts regarding the issue (Den (KC editor?) seemed to constantly defending himself and ignoring what we, the readers (albeit one time) had to say) and didn't catch the result...

You may have moved on, but I hadn't Sorry.

I'm sorry, the idea of this thread was not to go over old ground, but more to find out a little more about what Totalkitcar had in mind.

So please no bitchin', it's more interesting to find out what people think of the possibility of a new monthly mag (if that is what is going to happen) or maybe to hear from Steve.

How many would buy a new mag on the market?

It looks like you might be on to a winner there. Wonder why no-one else has ever thought of doing that?

How much?
