Anybody know how much the basic test fee is today, and how much a retest costs?

Thanks Meeja,
I'm working on an SVA article for the next issue.
Want it accurate! (apart from typo's)
Seems that the SVA test ccosts £1650.0

I think you mean £165.00
Or are you inferring that so much work is required to get the cars through the test that it ends up costing £1650???
It's my brothers test this friday, it should be interesting to see the test up close, rather than just reading about it.

Never mind about cars. I thought it was your brother being tested?

If I went for a test, I'd presumably have to take off my rough edges. That'd cost more than £1650 I reckon

BTW you previous poster. Never heard of irony?

Bring back the fun

kitcarman,

Something I'd like to see your mag write about:

The inconsistencies between SVA stations.

Do a watchdog style report on them! I guess it's too much to ask you to get a kit with known problems and take to each station and see what they fail it on.
But you could at least pick some contentious items and phone each station and ask them for a clarification on whether they'd pass/fail it.

e.g. Internal Mirror, is it needed (even if wing mirrors have the required visibility), does it need to be dippable? etc.

I'm sure amongst us we can find many of the items that trip people up because they're not consistently inspected.

Traction, I'd go along with such an article.
Anyone think of other inconsistancies/problems?

I doubt the interior is actually a requirement - Ultimas would never get through!

It isn't but that's precisely the purpose of such an article - to clarify matters.

Any other things caused problems or need clarifying?

I was warned that jubilee clips securing fuel lines were a no no but the SVA inspectors didn't comment when I used them on my Westy

Good point which is both correct and incorrect.
Jubilee clips are unsuitable in a high pressure system where you have for example a 40psi pump at the rear and the same high pressure at the injectors.

There have been some rule changes, apparently, totalkitcar.com has a very useful section about SVA and registration and they post monthly changes. Local station said the book was due for a reprint.

My SVA tester and I had a good natured argument as to whether the holes in my Libra's perspex rear screen were "holes in a body panel" requiring a 2.5mm radius OR "grilles" requiring a 1.0mm radius. I won, they're grilles
He also required a faxed letter from GTM concerning the strength of the top seat belt mount (small steel plate in GRP) and the radius on external body edges were a problem for him.
Having said that he let me sort out the brake efficiency by driving 'round and 'round the SVA centre until they were bedded in!!

Oh no it isn't!

The link posted by meeja says it's £22.00 or perhaps it's £220.0

Another inconsistency: Harnesses or 3 point belt?

Discuss.

This one is real easy.
You may have either.
The position requirements are the same for both

It’s smiles all round, Traction.

Cheers
