Kit Car Magazine is Crap?
Discussion
This is what some of you PistonHeads have said about my pride and joy:-
Stig
Histrically, I think that Kit Car had the edge production wise, but Which Kit? has caught, and overtaken them now I reckon.
Sparks
The fighting is a bit petty though. Do you know how it all started, as I have never been bothered to search for any details.
Liszt
I have to agree.
Spyderman
My personal preference has been towards Which Kit of late. However saying that I only buy either if they have something that interests me and would not subscribe as there is not enough technical detail to justify it.
All just IMHO of coarse!
madgw1ck
Can't see m'self buying either comic again in the near future.
Size Nine Elm
I've been reading Which Kit since Nov last year, just as a backgrounder since I would like to go for a 7esque BEC sometime soon. Oh well, as they say, don't believe everything you read.
chrisj
My personal preference at the moment is WK?
I haven't bought KC for a good few months.
ROR350
I think which kit is a better read.
MoJocvh
"but then I only buy the mag if it has something interesting in."
suparuss
I stopped buying either recently too.
This is my response:-
Ted, if I’m in breach of the commercial rules then jump on me. I’ll remove this posting in a flash.
I’m saddened at the low esteem in which my publication’s held by so many PistonHeads (as expressed above) and whilst their criticism is not entirely without justification, I cannot help but feel that some are behind the times in that I thought Kit Car is improving.
I’d like to offer the first 100 PistonHeads to e-mail me a free copy of the next (October) issue. I’d just like a line from them saying why they want it. Is that a commercial trading infringement?
If not then here’s my e-mail address kitcarman at ntlworld dot com. Offer must close on Friday 5th September.
Clearly there’s no dosh in it for me and indeed there will be a bundle of agro and expense.
If you want to know why I’m making such a silly offer, it’s because I think my product is better than the reputation it seems to have gained. What’s more, if there’s to be continued debate then it would work so much better if all were to have the same hymn book to sing from.
Let's go....as sheperds wash their socks...or something like that...anybody got the song book? No - well you only need ask. Don't forget your address, I'm not captain Kirk so can't beam it to you.
BTW there is a gain for me. If I were to pay consultants to tell me how to improve Kit Car. I'd be charged mega bucks to be told what they thought I WANT to hear. I reckon a 100 magazines will be a small price to pay for what I NEED to hear.
I'm bracing myself.

Now if only all motoring publications thought the same way!
How would you like feedback, on here or in emails? If everyone was to make constructive comments, I'd like to see them posted on here so that we could see what the general consensus is (only if it's ok with Ted of course).
And yes I have sent an email already.

I'd like it both ways if poss. But here in the main. For all to see.
The e-mail could be handy for off the record stuff. Also for when certain things that I've said before need saying again.
BTW What is that expression above to which two have said 'ditto'?

Kitcarman,
YHM
I love kit cars and the whole scene..... Having built and owned two Sylvas and driven and enjoyed many more, bring on the new magazine, maybe we could set up a questionnaire on peoples views. But seeing as I am totally useless with a PC I will have to really on someone else doing that.....
Chars,

No problem, I'm sure we can all keep it constructive.
They were dittoing Incorrigible's YHM = You have mail. Although Liszt has beaten me to it!

One point I would like to raise is that personally, I'd like to see more (some?) coverage of kitcar racing.
I remember one of the magazines covered the 750MC kitcar series (which I currently race in) a few years ago, however whenever I've had a flick through the current crop of magazines, I've not seen any mention of it.
Loads of people race, sprint and hillclimb kits, so I think there would be a fair bit of interest in it.
Apologies if you do cover it already and I've just missed it!

Come on PistonHeads, I've only managed to 'sell' 30 mags so far. Seems i can't give them away.
There's 70 more going begging!
e-mail me kitcarman at ntlworld dot com
Don't forget Name, Address and why you think you deserve it.
Best reason so far:-
"I'm a tight git"

Looks like "I'm a lazy git" is another reason. Would the rest of you accept that? Well I have!
My mind raced at the thought of a chap who "wanted to have something to do whilst is wife was sleeping"! Conclusion is "I'm a sad git" has been accepted too!
Another chap said he couldn't get it locally. Mind you he was from the USA. He's now on the mailing list too, as are a French and a Swedish guy! I've even arranged for my 'mate' Ozzie Dave from down under to get one.
I'm confident that I can make critics into sceptics, sceptics into supporters and supporters into evangelists. Putting this differently - I'm sure that I will allay at least some concerns in everybody. Perhaps even make a convert or two?
The more participation, the more effective use of everybody's time and Ted's facilities. Also the more minds on the subject the better, and the more representitive shall be any conclusions drawn.

Was anyone intending to get Which Kit? next month to do a comparison with Kit Car?
If so why don't we invite WK to join in to see if they want to offer a similar scheme and get some feedback on their mag. I'm happy to contact them & point them to this thread. A good way to keep things fair and above board.
Separate topics on PH for each mag, constructive feedback only, not a slanging match between the publishers.
What do you reckon, any objections?

Was thinking the same thing, I've never purchased or read either publication so would do an honest comparison of what I thought, then it dawned on me, if this was going to happen we would have to BUY Which Kit, boosting their sales up when Kit Car has offered copies to us for the comparison, after all, these magazines aren't free, I'm sure Kit Car will lose a bit but it's a good way of seeing what the public think.
What do you say Which Kit?
