Does anyone on here own an XTR2?

My kit is due for collection on October 1st and I was wondering if anyone on here has built one?

I guess I'm looking for any tips to help me.

Of course, I've got the tool list from the build manual but what about he things they don't mention. Bear in mind that this is my first kit so I'm a real virgin here.

Also, has anyone got anything that they used during their build that would help me and they want to sell, e.g. Chassis Support frames, etc?

Thanks in advance

Rob

You're local aren't you Rob?

See if you can get along to the Surrey WSCC meet, 2nd Tuesday of the month over Dorking way (info on regional website link below), one of the members has just built one, not sure if he's been along as I've not been for a couple of months.

The club have bits and bobs you could buy/borrow if you need them I'm sure.
www.wscc.co.uk/area/surrey/index.html - for the regional website.

And have you joined the WSCC, well worth doing, a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips - www.wscc.co.uk

www.xtr2.net is probably worth a look too.

MMmmm what a garage, 996TT and an XTR2 My perfect garage.

Hope this helps, welcome to Westy ownership

Graham

Thanks for the replies – I was beginning to feel very lonely!

In fact, I just searched in members cars for an XTR2 and no one lays claim to owning one – perhaps I’ll be the first Pher to build one.

Graham, Thanks for the advice. I haven’t joined the club yet but I guess that makes sense. I can do the meet on the 9th. I’ve been on the Surrey site and the only link I can’t get to work is the “Where we meet” link. www.wscc.co.uk/area/surrey/where_we_meet.htm . I’ve emailed the web master to ask for help.

I’ve been using XTR2.net which is helpful if not a little quiet. I actually posted more or less the same question on there.

Ben, thanks for the offer. Have you done this sort of thing before?

Rob, they meet at The Parrot Inn, Forest Green, Nr. Dorking, RH5 5RZ.

The times of the meets change with the time of year, at the moment I think it's 12:00 (noon obviously) I'm not 100% though as I seem to remember the first mag I got had the wrong time in it so I turned up a tad late

I also hope to make it on the 9th as I haven't been to the last few, so look forward to meeting you perhaps, put a face to another PHer.

Some of the roads are quite narrow, it depends which way you go, so that's one thing to look out for.

Apart from that just look for all of the westies (I'll be in the Smart Car, westy is still poorly )

I've never built a kit car from scratch but I've worked on a fair few, I've also done plenty of ground up restorations (used to be a restoration welder, triumphs MGs Sunbeams etc) this was my first glass car

I've got all the kit too (hoists, jacks, ramps, compressor, airtools etc)

The XTR was something I wanted to see up close and I'm only down the road

Cheers

I amy pop along to one of these meets myself, if I can drag the time out of my schedule.

I want to build a kit car post Uni, and the XTR2 looks pretty good in evo...

Edited to add : But I'm bu66ered if I can find a price tag...

Too much

Around £24,000 IIRC but I think that's factory built.

That's a lot better than the Radical I was looking at... Though still well out of my price range. Think I'll aim at a (bike engined? ) Locost for a few years, then move on.

I was overtaken a while back by an XTR2 (I think) about a mile from the Kiln near you.

Bloody impressive I tell you!

That they are, might have been Graham Hill's, he's one of the Surrey WSCC crew.

Cool.

Definately drop by some time then. Names to PHers AND a possible celebrity.

How's your Westie now?

BTW : Don't suppose anyone knows how much less an XTR2 kit will cost, compare to a fully built example?

Westy is still poorly, still need to sort out water system and the oil venting.

I THINK Terry Addison from the Surrey WSCC is/has built an XTR2 also but I'm not 100% on that one.

That's interesting!

I thought getting the factory to build the thing would be a MUCH higher portion of the cost than that!

Thanks for the input guys, but as stated above I think I'll do a Locost first!

Cheers for the info guys, hope the Wesite is up and running soon Graham!

Good luck!
