SS100 - Carisma Century Kit Car
Discussion
Hi there,
I recently bought a Carisma Century Kit car which I love to pieces.
I was wondering if anyone has details about an owners club, how many where built etc...
The company that built them went out of business but I'd like to find out as much as I can.
Any help would be great
Regards

Since buying my Car a few months ago my search for any info regarding other cars and the owners club has failed to date.
Therefore I'm on the look out for other cars and owners of the SS100 look a likes.
Before people mail me details off the web regaring Ted Legg I'll let you know the telephone numbers disconnected and the postal address doesn,t send replies back (I've tried mailing him.)
Also, if anyone is attending the Donington event and see's a Carisma Century, please get there contact details.
I have a mission!
Regards
Chris

Yup, I have one too, bought it in Dec 03, drove it home in Jan with no sidescreens or heater & snow on ground & roof down as it was a bit torn !
Ted Legg does eventually respond to letters but phone number is wrong. He says the club is dead as there are just two active members ... could be two more now, I'll write to him again.
I know so little about it ... rumoured to have been a US kit based on VW floorpan, yet looks a lot like a Panther J72. Mine is claimed to be a prototype but I doubt it, said to be based on a 2 litre Cortina Sport ... some bits probably are !
I'm 6 ft and the cut down jag seats in it still left too little room, so I cut out a chunk behind the drivers side and fitted old Spitfire seats. Am planning a Mini heater, have fitted some clear plastic sidescreens but would like a better solution. Suspension is very hard, vibrates like hell at 55mph, but ace fun. How's yours ? Where are you, I'm Somerset. Mike.

Where are you Chris ? No reply from my email to your account as yet. I just got off the phone from the guy who built my Carisma (at a cost 0f £8,500 to MOT in 1990) & have a fair bit of useful info now . I'll be at Beaulieu Auto Jumble tomorrow Sat 15th May, mine's red ..... Mike

Hi Guys
I wonder if any of you are still Carisma Century owners. I've just bought one that was built by a Mr. R. John of Pontypridd in Wales and would love to get in touch with other owners.
I've written to Ted Legg and have spoken to Chris from this topic and he has been really encouraging although he has sold his lovely Carisma "Lady Anne".
Mine needs a fair bit of work though does have a year's MOT. I am looking for a suitable set of wire wheels as it is currently on 13" lattice alloys which look rather strange. It's a shame as they are mint with great tyres but the offset is such that they protrude beyond the wings. If you can point me in the right direction for compatible wire wheels I would be delighted. Also I would like to mount the spare on the boot and would like photos or an illustration of suitable bracketing.
If any of you have pics of your cars I'd love to see them. Also advice on fixing the dashboard in place. The manual suggests strips of glassfibre but that doesn't strike me as very strong. All advice gratefully received.
Cheers

Hi, purchase one 6 months ago, build started in 1979 in London and stopped in 1980, changed hands 3 times over the 40 years with each owner not touching her, 99% all parts still with her and mostly boxed from new, found her in Scotland, now nearing completion apart from interior, that was all missing, just dashboard not fitted but new as well, I have a build manual and receipts from the start
Do you still have yours as I have only just found your post.
Tim getacab2002@yahoo.co.uk as I doubt I will find this site again!!! lol

Hi topcabbie,
I have just become the owner of a Carisma Century.... was running and looked good but is going to be a complete body off resto... The owners club appears to be defunct now though I managed to get in touch with Ocheye who posted on this forum in 2008. He had managed to find most of the UK owners at that time but most seem to have disappeared now.
Happy to get in touch and swap notes!

Hi sezmgf
Yes nice to find another owner, mine now needs a full interior as it’s never been competed or registered, I am now waiting for the summer to do it so she is wintered up in the garage, what area do you live in, ?
Somehow I missed your car until after it sold then came across it, it looked good, why a rebuild??
Stay safe
I have a list of old owners that came with my car !!
