Track day car choice
Discussion
I'm thinking of buying a car for trackday use (but it must be road legal too). I've got about £6000 to play with, so can anyone make any recommendations as to what would be a good choice?
At the moment I'm erring on the side of a Westfield but still not sure which would be the best price/performace compromise.
Cheers for the opinions

£6000 should get you a nice 1700 X-flow.
Just looking in the classifieds of my WSCC Mag -
Westfield SE 1996. 1700 X-Flow big valve head, Burton A3 Cam, twin 40s. Type 9 5-speed 'box. Alloy rocker cover. Lotus alloy sump, heater, full weather equip & tonneau cover, cyce wings, 8000 miles, BRG/Yellow nose cone (fantastic colour combo if I say so myself ) Fully carpeted, green with yellow piping. Tax and MOT, kept under cover in garage, excellent condition £6000 (Hereford)
PM me for his details!!

I am biased of course, but my vote would go straight to the Sylva group of cars..... For that money, you would definately get an X/flow car but possibly a zetec or even bike power.
The Sylva handle fantastically as proven in the 750mc championship which they have dominated for years.
You could either go the 7 style route of the Striker or go for a Fury/Stylus/Phoenix all of which are fantastic.
Good luck.

1600cc - 84 bhp (Single Downdraught carb)
1600cc - 100 bhp (Twin Carbs - Weber 40 DCOE)
1700cc - 135 bhp (Twin Carb - Weber 40 DCOE
As installed in Caterham 7s.
There are some very highly tuned Crossflows out there which can produce up to 200 bhp but at those levels of tune they lose their tractability for ordinary road use.
The Crossflow is pretty ancient technology and heavy on fuel consumption (compared to modern equivalents) but they make a fantastic noise - and spit flames when pushed.

£6k, will get you a complete sylva mojo2 kit and engine, gearbox and bits. That would be a Zetec aswell, probably with some cash to spare. And it would be new!
I think this is a little over confident on how cheap you can do a mojo for. Realistically once you have SVA'd and registered it you would be looking at more. NOt looked into it seriously, but having built two cars, I don't think it is possible to build one for that sort of money unless if you go the real cut corners approach.
Good car though.....
If you're thinking of building one, I may be able to help. I've just bought one that's had a bit of a smash (needs new chassis (£1200)) It's only done a few hours since it's build. 165hp blackbird engine, freelander diff with quaif reverse unit, full konis, sticky tyres, leather buckets
£4000 to you, or £6500 with the new chassis and running as a track car

It's gone sideways, very fast, into a telegraph pole
The chassis is bent like a bannana (hence new one needed (hence write off)) but none of the suspension is touched. It does need a new steering rack and column, but they're the only additional mechanical parts needed
Bodywork, for a track car it's all patchable, for a road car I think I'd replace the whole rear section and the scuttle, bonnet and nose cone fine though
I'll get some pictures up when I can
