Thanks for the replies - I've tried Bookatrack quite a few times, but they never got beyond 'Yes we can hire you one'. Despite repeated questions they would never tell me how or when, and in fact stopped replying at all after a while!
So, if anyone near here does have one - or any idea about the general level a Caterham with a side exit exhaust runs at I'd be more than grateful...

I was told by the Goodwood people that they would be happy to test the noise level on any car prior to a booked trackday. They offered to test mine so that I would be confident of meeting one of their levels (low or high).
Just turn up and talk to the tester. They are very helpful. Check that they have a "noise tested" trackday before going though.

Just a quick follow up: I gave up trying to source a noise meter (even from Bookatrack) and took the car to Goodwood in the hope it would pass - although I took another much quieter car just in case...
Mine went through at 97 dB, (3/4 maximum revs), with the limit set at 98.
There were a few 'Caterfields' that were initially failed - mainly due to popping during the test which produced large peaks. All in all the Goodwood staff were very helpful and tried their best to get people through.
Postscrpt: Excellent day, but the 4-speed 1600 X-Flow isn't enough car for Goodwood. The circuit is really too fast which means you spend a lot of time in top with your foot flat on the floor. Oh, and now I need a new set of tyres...!
