Best Cobra kit to buy ?????
Discussion
Hi Andy, are you looking to buy something that's completed? What will you use the Cobra for - general weekend jaunts, track days, showing?
The above factors dictate the best route for your purchase. You can have an in-depth discussion about your requirements at - http://autos.ninebean.com/cobraclub/ . A friendly bunch who are always happy to help. If you're looking to shell out £30k you need to make the right decision.
In your price bracket you're looking at some good AK's, Dax's & GD's with Yank V8's.

AK do a really nice replica as does magnum (no not the bloke with the tash)also try crendon 427,along with dax these are the best on the market, depends on how authentic
you want it to look, magnum do perfect looking replicas down to correct dashboard and interior, single hoop roll bar on drivers side only. dax is a really nice example but dont like the non original wider bonnet scoop and dashboard easily remedied though.
good luck finding a nice example.

Hi Andy,I was in the same position last year, liked the Dax, AK, Magnum, Crendon, the Dax having been developed and produced since the 80's appealed, liked their commitment to engineering, and the shell is a nice shape, asked master builder Dave Brookes to add me to his order book, I gave vague hints as to the 'period' appearance and detailing I was after and Dave gave me a black 427 s/c replica which was just what I dreamt of owning since, well, 1967!
His Dax starts at about £27k I believe, he has built over 100 cars to date, makes things very relaxed and straightforward for the customer, seems capable of sourcing/designing/making anything, also a top bloke with the patience of a saint!

Andy,
I just bought one today. An 05 Dax Cobra built by Dave Brookes. In my deal, i have a 5000 mile car, a new full respray and complete interior re-trim and a £2,500 hard top which looks the nuts!! Have a chat with Dave Brookes as he is a top bloke.
I collect it in 5 weeks and cant wait, just need to sell the Plymouth now. Drove it again today and it is very fast and sounds absolutely awesome.
I have found Hallmarks cars in North London to be very friendly, a lot friendlier than others should we say but thats life. I spoke to a chap who was selling his for £27k, it sold for £23k and is now in a showroom at £35k as witnessed by myself.
Get the right car and you wont lose money!
Regards,
Matthew

Hi Dave,
Looks like I'll be selling my Plymouth no problem, had a lot of interest in the last 24 hrs so all good.
When the Cobra is ready, I'll give you a shout as I hope to drive it back to Glasgow from London during the day so I may be passing you on the way (ish).
Cheers,
Matthew
If you can spare the time - as said previously Hallmark Cars is a good place to start.
I bought mine from there a few years back, and even had a respray thrown in...
They are within easy walking distance from Chingford Station (Just across the road..)
Great bunch of guys and very helpful.
The only problem I've had has been a lack of support/help/advice from Fiero Factory who originally built it.
Good Hunting

Get yourself down to TotalkitcarLive! at Brands Hatch on June 2nd as there will be several Cobra Manufacturer's demonstrating their cars, also there is always about 30 Cobras lined up behind the grandstand to inspect, and a few for sale too. £30K should buy you just about any 2nd hand Cobra there is. Be VERY picky as that is an awful lot of money for a kit car. You can have rides around the track in any of them, and you will have a real feel for how they go when the taps get opened up!
Most Cobra replicas have there good points but one realy in my opinion stands out from the rest and that is the AK 427, there has been many powerplant options including supercharged.I suggest getting in touch and they will be more than happy to discuss any questions and give you a demo run in the superb new 383 demostrator that they had at the Stoneley show.
I guess this is a slightly biased opinion as this kit manufacture is pretty local to me but this is my honest opinion.
