Ok, so I’ve done the shows, read the books bought the t-shirt and will be taking the plunge in about 8 months (child number 2 is imminent, and the missus has laid down the law that no kit building until next year ). The plan is to build a V8 Dax Rush jointly with a friend. We have a reasonable budget (12k to 15K) and are looking to do a pretty thorough job. At the moment we are doing the research and investigation (which is allowed under the Family May Day Agreement! ) and really want to know what are the best bits to get from Dax and what is best sourced else where , and what are the pit falls to look out for.

And can anyone explain why a 4cyl exhaust system is less than 500 quid while the v8, which in theory is only double the 4 cyl is over £1600

Any advice is greatly received.

Hello,

I own a cossie rush, but i didn't build it so can't help much. However i have found a few V8 build sites where people haven't bought the dax exhausts for that very reason. i seem to remember that one guy got someone to weld his up for less than half the money dax charge. have a look at the build site links on www.rushowners.co.uk.

Tim.

p.s. i think u forgot to add on the VAT, make that £1800!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are so may available exhaust systems for the rv8 that you should be able to adapt something if you do some research first. You could even have something custom made to make your car even more individual. Are you doing any engine mods?

Just happened to aquire a 4.6 unit out of a range rover. Current plan is to slap a edelbrock performance manifold and a 650 holley on it to start with.
The only thing ot sure about are the requirements for SVA.

if you are still looking for a exerlent manifold and not bothred about heating in your car concider a huffaker if you can find one expect to pay up to £200 for one as they are fairly hard to come by they are used on race cars and make lots of diffrence..

I'm told the carb can ice up in freezing weather when using a Huffaker. Don't know from personal experience, but I suppose it depends whether you garage the car over winter or intend to use it.

Don't know for definate what the details are. We are aiming for about 275-300 bhp with a lot of torque, so the 4.6 makes a good starting point. It will then be case of leaving the block and modest pile of cash with our engine builder.

For power output go for the Edelbrock Performer II .. have you already aquired the carb? If not .. consider the Weber / Carter / Edelbrock 500 .. it is so much easier to set up and changing the idle and off power jets is a simple and quick proceedure (easy for SVA and MOT). I think they are about the same price and readily available. In tests we have carried out the combination is worth 10 - 20 BHP over a offenhauser or other manifold.

if you use a 4.6 it wont rev as well as say a 4.0 but with the right parts you should clear 300bhp and porting your heads will help it along. i use a webber 500 carb and it is spot on ive had no probs with it but im going to upgrade to a 600 holley dp if your looking to get as much as poss out of the 4.6 i would perhaps look into a 600 holley it will supply you with as much fuel as youll need the webber might be near to the limit. hope this is some use !

Lizst,

If you go to se7ens.net and subscribe to the Dax mailing list and post this question on there, you’ll get replies from a few guys that have had aftermarket systems made for V8 Rushes and one guy that made his own if I remember correctly, all for a lot less money.

But, if you want a really trick looking system, with a high quality finish then the Dax system is the one to have. I had a Dax system on my pinto and now I’ve got one on the cossie as well and they are the dogs. Worth the dosh if you ask me, just for the look but I don’t quite understand why the V8 is so expensive.
