bike engine

Hi all

I am thinking about going the bike engine route with the locost I am building. I however have very little experience with bike engines and was wondering what you need and how much it would cost my budget for the engine is 400 to 500 preferably closer to 400 some one has recommended looking at

yamaha fzr 1000 exup engine

witch I understand is a pre blade engine I would like to know what you all think. And any experiences you have had. I know that bike engines are not everybody’s cup of tee but I am interested in seeing how much this will cost.

I have the exup, and can recommend it. It may not have the ultimate power (143bhp with carbs, though I believe it reached 169 with fuel injection), but is very light and strong in comparison with the alternatives. It was used in the LCC Rocket, where they were able to use it structurally (and shave off another few kilo's).

Do you guys know if you need to replace the EXUP valve if used in a car??

No, the exup's still on mine. It's all neatly mounted on the side and just needs a bit of Coppaslip every few years.

Makes for a lovely engine note, right through the range.
