I have just bought a Westfield Megabusa this weekend.

Here's a good question for you...

Does anyone know for sure if it is illegal to wear a crash (oops, I mean 'safety') helmet when driving on the road?

This Megabusa doesn't have a windscreen, just an aeroscreen, and I don't want to swallow a bee when I'm whizzing down a country lane...

If it is illegal, just what can you get away with?

Your fine in an open top car ..... your get the attention of plod if you wear one in a tin top though.

Something about enticing a race or something.

I'm reliably informed that it is not illegal. In fact the perception that it is illegal is almost classed as an urban myth now.

I wear mine all the time, when out in the car,not when I'm at home or shopping etc you understand. Stops me getting all manner of crap in my eyes/teeth/nose, and I don't get a headache from the back of my head getting cold.

Noope, not illegal, with an aeroscreened car it's advisable, keeps your bonce warm in winter too

I asked this question a while ago on the Westfield Forums (edited to add link) so a more detailed set of answers can be found here. Also there is another thread on it here.

Oh and enjoy the megabusa

Imagine when you get a stone thrown up with enough force to crack a laminated windscreen, except thats your face there instead Yes I think I'd be encouraged to wear some form of protection.

Just don't walk into your local petrol station/bank without removing it.

I've had a few know-alls tell me that it is illegal when I worn mine in my Spyder. I only use mine on fast busy roads and motorways - especially the M25 - you wont believe just how much cr*p is kicked up on that road until you try it!

Good luck,

John S.
