Ok, after six (happy) years of Lotus ownership I've decided I fancy building myself a car. My plan is to sell my Elise and use the money and garage space to build a kit car. My mechanical knowledge is at the level of being able to service my own cars and change things like brakes and so forth.

I don't want a Sevenesque car (I have to convince the other half that the new car is at least as pretty as the Liz), and after a bit of research, the current favorite is a Fireblade engined Fisher Fury (Spyder). I like the looks, the price is such that I'd be able to build a really good one and still have money left over to pay for things like track days and driver training. The company seems pretty switched on & friendly too, from what I've seen.

I haven't seen many references to the Fury in this newsgroup, so I was wondering what fellow PHers thought of (a) my plan and (b) the Fury. Are there any catches I should be aware of? What other cars should I consider as well?

Any advice gratefully received...

We have a yahoo group for Bike Engined Cars here -
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/bike-engined-cars/

Join and ask around, there are a few Fury Blade owners who will be more that happy to chat with you. We are also at Brooklands for a track day on the 30th Nov if you want to come along and meet / ride / inspect !

One question though, are you planning on using this as your only car? I have a westfield blade which is fantastic but I am not sure if I would like to try and use it all of the time !

Thanks for the info - I'm just waiting for Yahoo to verify my e-mail address and then I can have a scan around the group.

I don't plan to use the car every day - the Elise convinced me of that a long time ago. It's not that you can't use it every day, but you tend to forget just how much fun it can be when you just sit in traffic jams with it every day on your way to work...

Friend of mine has a Fischer (Fury?) which it's taken a little under 2 years to build.

He seems very happy with it, though his donor car was a complete shed, and its bits keep dying. He's full of praise for Fischer themselves, which can only be a good thing. Its his 1st kit-car though, so I'm afraid I can't offer any comparrisons.

Looks pretty enough anyway. (I'm personally not a massive kit-car person, but it is quite a tidy effort)

Cheers.

Hi,

Also consider specialist Sports Cars, who have a very similar car (was originally a sylva design), so look at

www.specialistsportscars.com
www.sylva.co.uk
www.dwindledot.co.uk/ssr/index_high.htm

Hope these help

I had a lot of kitcars and have driven even more!
At the moment i have a Caterham, Westfield and a Fury!
If I had to sell one of them, it would not be the Fury.

Hmm, kind of sidesteps the "building it myself" bit, which is the main reason I want to do it.

Also, I know how quick they are, but any 7esque car doesn't do it for me on the looks front, which is also one of my requirements (vain soul that I am...).

Don't rule out the Sylva Phoenix (now sold by Stuart Taylor Motorsport) or the SSC Stylus as they're all pretty much of a muchness underneath.

My personal choice would be the Phoenix as it's more heavily track biased and it looks better (IMO).

I have a friend who is building a Firestorm powered Phoenix. Checkout his build site HERE

ive spent alot of time with the Fisher crew, as i designed and built a piece of equipment for them and thier racing cars, as an A'level final design project.
The guys down there are top blokes and will help you in everyway possible.

also you must realise that in the 750 motorclub (i think its the 750club) the fisher fury is crapping on everything! its so fast! it really is one of the best kit-cars for thrasing around your local race track on one of those track days you seem keen to do!

its cheap, uses reliable bits and to replace them its cheap too unlike an Elise.

there are so many options that come with the fury, colours, set-ups, they'll supply you with bits and salvaged parts, oh and the engines! range from a small motor-bike engine to a V8! cant do that with a Lotus and its poxy straight4!

Buy one! Go for it!
