Kit car insurance for non UK resident?

I've encountered an issue with my Haynes Roadster build. I'm currently living in Hungary.
I had planned to get the car IVA tested with UK plates and then simply drive it out. I thought I could do this for up to 6 months a year.
I'm finding it difficult to find an insurer that will cover a non UK resident. Does anyone have any recommendations I could try?
The alternative is getting the car imported but this seems equally difficult.

It's impossible.
You can make an appointment with the DVLA for an IVA test in your name by giving the UK address of someone you know or family.
But the car must be registered and insured in the name of someone who is resident in the UK.
It is also not possible to add a non-resident to the insurance if the car is a kit car. You will not be able to buy temporary insurance either, because kit cars are not in the database of cars that insurance companies have.
There is also the issue of customs duties but that is a subject for a private message ;-)

Im in France and insure on a short term basses - up to 3 months at a time with a specialist French company. But this is only basic cover, although I do get genuine insurance for summer use.
I only yesterday had the DREAL inspector round. He suggested just using a UK family/friend address as a registration & insurance base. But keep the car in a foreign country just for "holiday" usage. I personally would not be happy with this. I dont know how, in my case MOT/CT tests would be looked upon in a claim situation. There are also other multiple flaws in this.
A new point. If a car is registered in a EU country it is a formality to re register it in another EU country (includes such as TVR, Lotus, self built kit cars). Ahh if only the UK was in the EU - one day perhaps.

I've seen it's also relatively easy to re-register in Spain after IVA but then insurance is really difficult.
I don't really want the hassle of trying to register it in Europe because I'm only living here for a couple years.
IVA next year is still my target. It also serves as a useful shakedown test for track days.

if you IVA your car next year...no matter what engine you are using...its IMPOSSIBLE to get the car homologated somewhere in the EU.
why? Due to the fact that innthe EU the emission classification is related to the date of first registration in the documents.
so with a 2023 or 2024 reg-date your are subject to Emmission class 6 or even higher
