My 2001 Tiger has failed its MOT due to chassis rust.

Is this likely to be terminal or is there a chassis repair service near to me on Merseyside?

Should be simple enough to cut out and replace. I bet Tiger could fix it if still going?

If you could strip it then any fabrication company should be able to fix it

Ask them.

https://tigerracing.com/

Fairly sure it can be sorted.

Here's my old one.

I don't know anything specifically about Tigers, but I'd suggest inspecting the chassis very closely.

A caterham I had owned started to have obvious corrosion in one place. Then on further inspection it was very bad in several places. So much so that it had to be rebuilt on a new chassis.

Hope yours is more localised.

depends which section of the chassis has rotted, as its not that "simple" in terms of remainng the strength and integrity of the chassis by cutting-out some tubes.

but as we speek about a 22y old low-cost kitcar i would not worry to much abouth above things.

this said: if Mr. Mot has failed the car..i would say: there is something severe wrong with this chassis and in need of a full refurbisment.....which financally doesnt make sense on such a car.

conclusion: botch-repair and sell the car to finance a replacement.

Why would it be any different to bracing or jigging the chassis, cut out and then weld in? That is how they were built.

Very simple cars to work on (I built one) so not hard to tear it down and drop the chassis to Tiger or a decent motorsport fabricator.

Thanks for your ongoing interest. As an update I had an offer from an enthusiast who has taken it off my hands & plans an ongoing project to restore. I’ve asked him to let me know if he succeeds as I would be interested to buy it back off him.

Sorry but I’m not able to do this myself & only ever undertook simple repairs & basic maintenance. I really loved the thrill of owning a kit car & miss the completely visceral driving experience.
