Recommend shock absorbers
Discussion
I have just had a Control Technique done and need new shocks.
The originals are 20 odd years old.
I don't know if I should just get GAZ, Proteck or perhaps Nitron?
It's on a Stylus. Has anyone had experience of the current offerings.
I live in France but returning to UK next week, so I can bring them back. But some are made to order, so not available off the shelf.
Cheers everyone.

I was thinking that Protech are probably the best option. They only cost a little bit more than the GAZ/AVO units and should be correct for my car.
Just wondering if anyone tried Nitron, Penske, Ohlins and thought the extra cash (double?) was worth it.
But the ideal for a small light Kitcar does seem to be Protech.
I sent an email to Siltech as they own Stylus and have been working on improving the suspension. So will see what they have. I know they also use the Protech's on the Westfield upgrades.
Cheers for you reply.

I had a Westfield (albeit an FW400, not a 'normal' one) on Penskes. I've driven Elises and TVRs on Nitrons. Both were good dampers, but I'd struggle to say that they were so noticeably better than Protechs as to make the extra cost worthwhile.
The main advantage of Penskes is that you can valve them to do pretty much whatever you want (in terms of low/high velocity, progressive/ digressive damping), but unless you're a very serious suspension geek, you most probably won't benefit from this.
The reality is that the Sylva doesn't have a very stiff chassis (meaning that the chassis itself acts to a significant degree as an undamped spring in series with the road springs and the similarly undamped tyres), so you won't derive maximum benefit from very high quality dampers, anyway.
i would go for protech´s as well.
good ratio of quality and price.
this said: ask Procomp for a quote....they can re-valve the Protec dampers that they are more suitable for such lightweight kitcars.
always remeber: Protec, GAZ, Spax....they are all "universal" dampers.....so the bottom valve is always the same , no matter if its a lightweight kitcar or a heavy mass-produced car.
