Thanks for the replies. I posted this in General Gassing but annoyingly it’s been moved. I was the one who bumped the old thread linked to above but not had any luck finding any owners. Even tried joining the FB group for the South Wales kit car group to try and track down Bob but not had the request to join approved by a mod

Hi. It’s a real stab in the dark but I’m trying to locate an owner of one who would be willing to either loan the car out for a day or offer their services as a chauffeur in return for payment.Whilst I am not an expert I know a bit about the breed; what did you want to know?
To cut a long story short a close friend of mine happens to be a nephew of the person who designed/made the car originally and is trying to find one to be used as a wedding car for his big day. They hold a lot of sentimental value to him and it would mean a lot to somehow find an owner who could help out.
Tricky
Roughly whereabouts would the wedding be? And what sort of date?
I know where one is ( my back garden ), but thats an easy answer compared to the rest of it...
The exhaust blew last September. Know someone who can make another, but at the moment we are neither taxed tested (or insured for weddings either).
As for an alternative, there is one in Brighton (somewhere, haven't been in contact with him since well before the virus), and one rumoured to be in the Grassington area (never seen it and don't know where exactly, but you won't want it anyway, unless your friend wants a long bodied hearse for a wedding car).
Tried to contact South Wales Kit cars back in 2012 or so.
Still waiting for an answer...
Apologies, have no idea how to turn the picture over.

Woah! The wedding is likely to be somewhere in Yorkshire although it’s yet to be confirmed, same for the date but wouldn’t be until later on this year at the absolute earliest. Roughly whereabouts would the wedding be? And what sort of date?

As for insurance, wouldn’t regular insurance cover it? I had a forum sourced Maserati Quattroporte driven by the owner as my wedding car, slipped him some cash in return. I did find an owner in South Wales who mentioned he knew of another own in Oxford. He said he would ask him and see if either could do it but yet to hear back from him.
Ok, no problem.
I only mentioned insurance because I got asked about it once, but I don't do weddings as a rule. Not sure the car is suitable for them, it has space issues, but your friend should know this. Mine also has also has exhaust issues, which is why I asked about dates; if it had to be done quick it might not have been possible to fix it in time.
Don't mind being held in reserve if you can't find anything better, there are bound to be more out there. There must be a few of them, but I have been told that there were thirty seven, twenty seven or just seventeen, and that was from people who had heard of them.
Car is in York if you need it.

Thank you very much for the kind offer. As it stands it’s the only one I’ve had as I never heard back from the other owner that I spoke to. From what I’ve been told there aren’t many about as a lot of them ended up in Germany for some reason. I only mentioned insurance because I got asked about it once, but I don't do weddings as a rule. Space issues aren’t a problem, for him it’s a massively sentimental thing and I believe the founders children will also be in attendance at the wedding so seeing a car there that their dad made would mean a lot
Funny you should mention Germany. Car and Classic are advertising what looks like a Speed 4 Sherpley in Wasserburg, Germany. Advert claims it was built in 1977 (presumably the build date of its donor vehicle, thats a lot earlier than I thought). Thinking that offers around £40,000 might be a bit optimistic, but I really don't know what they're worth.
They are a few about, but they're an acquired taste. If a vintage Bentley is a thoroughbred racehorse, then a Sherpley is looked down on by the purists as a pantomime horse. Have a friend with a three litre Bentley; he just says to have fun driving it, thats what he does, avoid posh owners clubs ignore the critics (not quite how he phrased it, but you get the idea).

No problem. No idea how to do that, there seems to be some restrictions on contact, so how is that possible?
You need to set your profile such that you can receive emails. No problem. No idea how to do that, there seems to be some restrictions on contact, so how is that possible?
The restrictions are normally preventing you from emailing when you are a new member. Prevents people spamming.

Hi. I think you will need to click on your username then select edit profile and tick the box towards the bottom of the page that allows people to message you directly. It looks like this No problem. No idea how to do that, there seems to be some restrictions on contact, so how is that possible?
Thanks
Morning I had one of these some years ago and sold it to someone who lives in Nice France When I bought it I could only afford part of the kit from Brian Pickup the designer .However before I could buy more kit parts he sadly died ,so had to make 90% of it myself Does the gentleman who has one in his garden ,want to sell the car as is I may be interested
Thanks for posting on this thread as it made me realise I completely forgot to reply with the outcome of it all. Sorry it’s a long post.
The gent above who posted about having one in his garden is an absolute gem of a man. I made the short trip up to see him with my friend who is the late Brian Pickup’s nephew. He showed us round the car and took us out for a spin so we could see how the car felt with the roof down. Then we discussed logistics and plans for the big day.
On the day he turned up at my friend’s house in good time and we showed the car to my friend’s dad who was Brian’s brother. Then he dropped his dad and brother off to the venue before returning to take my friend and I to the venue. He stayed at the venue for photos and for Brian’s partner and daughter to see the car which was an emotional moment for them as it had been years since they last saw one of his cars.
I’m still shocked a post on PH helped in not only tracking an owner down but convincing them to offer their services in using it as a wedding car. This place can be brilliant at times!
