I’d guess you need about £30k to make a good looking one and they look pretty awful with the wheel arches fitted. If you really want a road going single seater, it’s the best you’ll get but anything more than a quick blast around some local country roads will be a pretty unpleasant experience imho.

If you want a nice looking single seater track car, there are dozens of old Formula Fords around that will be much better.

They say it’s no madder than a caterham with an aero screen but I think that’s pushing it, you’re far lower in a Caterham and there is more to make you feel secure.

They don’t.
I understand that if it is to be road registered then it needs to have mudguards fitted for the IVA. The cars used for the photos and videos are either not road registered or the mudguards have ‘fallen off”.

That's the track version. They sell a kit for on the road use - mudguards, lights, indicators, etc.; close to £3k incl VAT.

I like these a lot. Can't stretch to 30k though.

Saw this at Silverstone the other weekend, and wasn't impressed.

It looks really chunky - tall and heavy looking, wide in the body. Perhaps 50s GP cars were exactly the same size and proportions, I dunno. But it didn't grill my sausage.

But what I really couldn't get on with was the visible OE MX5 subframes and wishbones. Really quick and easy giveaway that it wasn't period.

For 30k I'd rather build a Lotus 11 replica, and I suspect it would have more cachet, hold its value better, be more fun to drive...

I would beg to differ on this point…
