I bought a kitcar "Gentry TF 1500" with date of 1st reg 1988 and a 17digit vin-no. starting SABTVR03478172075.

What is it for an Chassis from which Car?

According to this thread looks like your VIN is one issued by DVLA to kit cars which have no single donor.

Concur, that’s the same format as the VIN I had issued by DVLA for my scratch-build.

In recent years, the DVLA got more rigorous about VIN format and if you present an old kit or other vehicle for registration with a chassis number that doesn’t comply with the new rules, they issue one for you.

This https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentry_Cars suggests it’ll be based on a Triumph Herald.
