If I were to buy a 1967 mini scamp from malta would I have any chance of getting it road registered over here (UK)?
It has a Malta 'log book' (gives a 1967 build date but a 1978 road registration)
thanks

This would suggest you don't need to worry about type approvals etc

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/exemptions-fro...

as it is over 10 years old.

Here is the place to start:

That said, if, because it was a kit, DVSA insisted, it might have to go through an IVA test. That could be problematic given the basic design I suspect.

Might be smart to contact DVSA and ask them tbh.

Given the historic links between Malta and the UK, the discrepancy between the build date and the date of registration, and the fact that the Scamp originated in the UK, I would imagine there's a pretty fair chance that it's previously been registered in the UK.

In any event, given its age, I don't think you would have any terrible trouble getting the thing registered as a historic vehicle.

I have a 1985 Suzuki motorbike that was previously registered in Germany. It was a model that was never imported officially to the UK. Registration in the UK was a simple form filling exercise. I had to get it MOT'd on the chassis number, which was a minor hassle, but I don't think you would even need to do that.

What's absolutely vital is to make sure you get the Maltese registration documentation. Without that, the process will be far more problematic if not impossible.

But as much as I like Scamps, it's quite a lot of effort to bring one back from Malta!

I agree, shelved the idea! Thanks all for your thoughts
