Dare/Ginetta G12
Discussion
Has anyone ever driven one of these beauties? The Ginetta G4 thread has some exterior pictures of the G12--what about the interior? Has anyone converted the G12 into road use? Don't you think Petrolted should find out if one is being buil, then send Graham Bell over to drive it? Why hasn't any auto mag ever featured the G12? Does the Dare G12's devalue the original G12's?
Hi kip,
Ted has noticed that Ginettas do seem to attract posting or two, so maybe he will get round to introducing a Ginetta section. That's up to him, so if all you Ginetta fans want your own section you know who to pester...
When I spoke to Ivor Walklett earlier today he didn't mention anything about building a G12 at the moment so I'd guess Dare haven't got one lined up.
Don't know if the fact Dare are making new G12s available will have much of an effect on the prices of the 1960s originals - and anyway, we're not talking Ferrari P4s or 427 Cobras here.
Think owners of G12s (old or new) regard their cars as something to be driven on the track rather than an 'investment'. After all, that is what the G12 was designed for. Pretty good at it too, setting a new class lap record at it's debut at Silverstone in 1966 and then establishing itself as the car to beat.

Here is the caption from GINETTA, The Inside Story:
"Incredible award winning photo by Derreck Buckett taken in 1967 of a Cobra ploughing intoa Ginetta G12. This year saw an absolute domination by a plethora of G12s in GT racing."
I wish I couold scan the picture in because it is quite good. Does anyone have a copy of this photo available for sale?
I think the G12 is absolute stunner and further proof that the best automotive engineers come from the UK!

I'm a big fan of the G12 too and back in December 2001 I e-mailed Dare regarding availability/prices of the car:
Ginetta G12 Rolling Chassis: £25,850 (inc VAT)
G12 200hp Zetec/Hewland Box, fully built: £34,075 (inc VAT)
However, they did say they were working on developing a Dare badged G12 with the more cost effective option of a bike engine and an Quaife dif version for 10-15K (without engine and dif), and also with some consideration given to the SVA.
