Disappointing to hear that the worlds largest kit car show is off, despite being postponed from May to Aug.
I honestly do not understand why, outdoor markets are allowed, social distancing measures could have been put in place, it would mean the halls would be closed but exhibitors could have done so cheaper by displaying outside under a marquee.

Grosvenor shows said no to Stoneleigh BUT;

"Open-air gigs, festivals and theatre shows can resume in England from this weekend, as long as they have "a limited and socially distanced audience", the government has said."

The old MEV circuit and infield is available if anyone is interested in organising an event, the current situation is dreadful but there are opportunities as all other events cancel they leave the door wide open.

That's a shame. Seemed like it'd be fairly easy to socially distance.

Having been to Stoneleigh for more years than I can recall I think that this could be either the shot in the arm to refresh the show or the straw that broke the camel's back.

The show has declined year after year, I remember in the past when the owners stands would be packed. Seas of Cobra replicas, Westfields end to end (although these both still show well) Ultimas, Marlins, GTMs etc, even Caterham owners used to show up in huge numbers. Cars and owners would come from all over the continent.

Now outside is possibly 50-75% of previous numbers, inside in the manufacturers it's even worse.

I think it is down to a number of factors, the easy availability of finance for the latest German hatchback, the availability of secondhand sports cars like the MX5, Lotus Elise, S2000 etc and the ever increasing costs of building a kit car.

I'd imagine the risk of some lockdown measures being imposed means it's not worth doing the legwork to get the show going.

The last time I went it was a little disappointing and not been since.

I think it's also down to the prices too IIRC it used to be free to enter in a kitcar and free for the passenger.

Of course when attendances decline, prices rise to keep it profitable...
