Mid engine kit car engine choices
Discussion
Morning All
Currently musing about building a cheap track day car in the loose form of an Ariel Atom.
Not that keen on a motorbike engine so what light weight, inexpensive and tuneable engine do you suggest I consider for the task.
I need to also think about transmission as the majority of cars being FWD will I think not be suitable.
Lightweight and inexpensive are the key elements here I think
Any ideas would be greatly received

Surely virtually any fwd powertrain would be possible?
However i would probably be looking at using an MGF with a 1600VVC K-series OR a 1.8t VAG if starting something from scratch.
if you wanting to build a kit already out there then it's worth taking a look at the SVE Rocket which uses ford units. If i were doing this personally i'd be looking at the 1.0 3pot ecoboost which can easily be tuned to 160bhp and is VERY light.
