Just a general question on kit cars, knowing very little about them.

My nephew who owns a backstreet garage came into possession of a kit car running chassis. (A customer was dismantling his garage and this was in it)

There’s no identifying marks on it that we could find. No idea of manufacturer although to be fair we didn’t investigate too much. It had a Pinto engine fitted but not much else. No idea about it’s age.

I think he got shot of it but I’m assuming it would have been world of pain to actually get it on the road legally?

Yes - both in terms of proving the legitimate origins of the major components used (which is checked at registration) and in passing the design/roadworthyness test, known as IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval).

Nothing to stop it being used as a track day car though.

Apart from the fact that it had a chocolate boat anchor instead of an engine? biggrin

Bulletproof and related to a Cosworth if it has the right block. No Duratec or S2000 lump, I agree, but bloody good fun nonetheless.

If you like, but the bit that makes the power (or doesn't, in the Pinto's case) is completely different, and is very much not bullet-proof in standard form (camshaft oil spray bar sludging).

fking horrible thing. Definitely best used for keeping your fishing boat from drifting off.

Always change the spray bar annually - cheaper than a new camshaft. Ask me how I know!
