Smallest Alternator or custom alternator fabrication.
Discussion
Alternator -I have a Denso 10 02 11 - 4730 alternator. https://en.as-pl.com/p/A6212
From front pulley to back is 142.5mm, (need it to be 10-20mm shorter).
Need something smaller (that still produces 60amps).
Space is tight against rocker cover.
I have considered
- turning alternator 180degrees, but no space against radiator
- running alternator off the driveshafts (but it's going to be used on the road too, so will get stuck in traffic, not charging).
Has anyone got any suggestions, of a standard alternator to buy
or
Are there any companies that make smaller custom items.
or
alternators with remote regulators, so I can shorten the measurement.
Thanks

This is 40 amps.... does your project actually need 60 amps?

Thanks, I have just phoned them, and they've measured it, and unfortunately it is the same size as mine. 142.5mm.
Looking at the spec of my alternator, I've made a mistake, it's 40amps too.
The solution I'm investigating at the moment, is to bolt an additional pulley on to the front of the Crank Pulley (to make enough room for the alternator in the unusual position).
I'll then have to make a spacer and additional gasket and bring the (electric) water pump assembly out to match the new position (water pump pulley does not come off, it's part of a sealed unit).

I have a 2cv Ducellier alternator with external VR knocking about somewhere. Most came with Iskra ones which are a lot bigger.
Not sure what its output will be like, I'd hazard a guess that it'll be more like 20-30A
How much current do you actually need? I can have a measure up of the one I have if you like? It is shallow though.

Another company to try: https://www.powerlite-units.com/performance-altern...
Good question about how much actually needed.
I have a
big electric water pump 20amp
16inch radiator fan 18amp
ECU
lights and ignition/starter
Had a chat with Julian at Powerlite (really helpful)
50am - should be ok. But they can rewind to increase ampage if need be (although charging cut in revs would increase as a result).
Still struggling with dimensions, but think I'm going to have to do the modification to the water pump and extra pulley.
Companies I have called, all say, that I have smallest alternator they're aware of.
Was hoping there'd be companies that could make up an alternator and casing but not found any.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
