I've got a yamaha r1 5pw powered Fisher fury. I have lunched the engine (drove through a deep puddle at pace, ingested lots of water, broke some bits...).

Considering my options and thinking about putting a more modern engine in. I want 200+bhp, 1 ltr, don't want anything that I need to dry sump.

What's the latest thinking? What's an easy fit? I guess the bmw, Honda, yamaha engines are all candidates.

Kawasaki zx10r, but as it's inline you will need to baffle the sump as a minimum.

Only way around is either, shaft drive or a new chassis with the engine in a different orientation i.e mid engines.

Im a little out of date with BECs, but a 200hp beasty used to dictate a Busa lump, losts of billet bits, a dry sump and maybe even a blower.....

The very latest bike lumps will all be huge money and rely on factory electronics and airbox to make the HP quoted....

I did an article for CKC outlining the pro's and con's of the various bike engines. It's around 5 years old so it may not be relevant to you now but it may be worth getting a back issue or a pdf copy of the article if you're interested.

Try contacting Andy Bates at AB Performance. He is the acknowledged expert on all things BEC. He often has engines for sale. His default "engine of choice" is the CBR1000 Honda.

I had a good long chant with Andy. Really helpful and interesting. Lots of food for thought.

I don't know who David is?

Very well built, and then very well prepared & looked after by David; I've had next to no issues with it! Oil filters, plugs; lots of tyres; a couple of batteries and one generator stator, and a £10 hose split. That's it. 30K+ miles more in my ownership so far and still on the original clutch!

Engine is getting tired now, but I think I'll stick with the R1 - it really suits this car/me. A project for Spring - car is SORN at present awaiting time to pay it the right attention / run through it end to end looking for another 10 years of fun.

+1 from me to that - but happy to share experience / learn from OP's proposed engine swap.

Back on topic - a mate had a ZZR1400, and we carefully measured it up - came to the conclusion it'd not fit in a BEC-chassis Fury without big hole(s) being made in bodywork for a start, and the fit in/over/around left chassis rail s for necessary pipework/optimal placement likely iffy. It's a powerful lump for sure, but a total reengineering from the starting point of an R1 5PW - based Fury. Not to put anyone off - I'd like to see it happen smile
