Hi.

Does anybody have knowledge on what the current Vehicle Excise duty would be on a self build car (something like a Cobra), if it passed the IVA test tomorrow (hypothetically speaking), and it was fitted with a modified 1968 Ford 7000cc V8 with a carburettor.

I would like to have an idea of future costs.

Thanks
Andy.

Will it have a Q plate?
If not then VED would be based on the age of the donor vehicle.

Currently £265 for 12 months.

All kit cars regardless of whether they’re on a Q, new or age related plate are taxed according to the Pre-2001 PLG limits for up to 1549cc and over 1549cc.

The only exception to this rule are the very few models that have type approval.

Thanks for the replies.

It will not be a kit build. There will be no single doner vehicle, and it will be built from scratch. I will be doing my best to ensure that it doesn't have a Q reg.

As said above by smokey mow, there's just 2 taxation classes that apply; Over 1500cc and under. Over is currently £265 I believe.

I have a kit which is VED exempt.
