ever be elgiible for Historic status, ie free road tax etc if registered on a Q plate?

Nope,
Q = Radically altered/made from indeterminate source material/bitsa car = Not eligible for free tax or MOT exemption.

A "Normal" classic car will lose historic status as soon as it is "radically altered" as well.

Most age related component cars shouldn't be eligible, however some slip through the net due to the way the V5 was coded many years ago.

Wasn't sure there was an exemption for cars built in the late 70's, early 80's (when thy get to 40YO) if they weren't radically altered from when first registered.
Been advised of a "kit" car from the early 80's but on a Q, (registered correctly)
