Guys this may have been discussed before. For the wishbone suspension bolts, what is the tensile strength or compliant bolts that are needed for the IVA, I have 8.8 CV stamped on the head of mine. Are these OK ?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers Ian

8.8 will be fine. Another thing to aware of is be sure you've got a couple of threads beyond the nylock.

The 8.8 marking will normally only be on metric fixings.
Seat belt fixings are traditionally imperial. If the fixing you use is the normal style with a thin head height with a shallow dome top these will be acceptable despite having no markings. If you use an imperial fixing with a normal head style it should be marked with 3 lines radiating from the centre of the head. This is the imperial equivalent to the 8.8. If you use seat belts or harnesses that clip onto an eyebolt then make sure the eyebolt is marked 8.8.

I also like to make sure that suspension bolts present a plain shank to the rotating parts and chassis brackets to avoid loads being taken on the points of threads. Look up a bolt specification chart for the diameter required e.g.
https://www.leytonfasteners.co.uk/bolt-setscrew-in...
to find the bolt length that provides the plain shank length needed. Trim off the excess threaded part to leave just three threads clear of the nyloc. If you end up with just a bit too much plain shank, pack out with spacers. That’s better than too little plain shank.

I had real trouble getting UNF bolts with the correct shank length for my current project. Thought I had it sorted, bought a large batch only to find huge variation in what arrived. Returned the lot and ended up buying AN from Aircraft Spruce. Glad I did too. Way better accuracy than any UNF stuff I’ve ever come across before.
