Lakeside SPM Belaro
Discussion
Hello All.
Just wanted to dip my toe in the pistonhead font of knowledge and ask if anyone here knows the whereabouts of a Lakeside SPM Belaro Berlinetta.
It was a Pontiac Fiero based kit car which I have been searching for for some time now.
When SPM was sold to Lakeside SPM the cars were built by my father and later he brought the company and owned it the the last few years of its life. I spent many days helping put these cars together and traveling with them to the various shows across the country.
I would love to own a Belaro or even the SPM 308 gtb lookalike but so far I have been unable to track one down.
Has anybody ever seen one or know of one ?
Thanks for your help.

Hi
I’ve just stumbled upon your post whilst trying to find out more about the SPM 286. I believe that I have one of these kit cars which I bought a year ago in a very sorry state. I’m just about to start restoring the car to it’s original condition. I will be removing all the body panels as there is a significant amount of rust underneath but I intend to carry on whatever I find. This car has the 2.5 ‘Iron Duke’ engine which I shall replace and it’s coupled to the 5-speed Getrag gearbox. The car sat on the previous owner’s drive for nearly 10 years after it was vandalised and that’s how I came to own it. Quite an undertaking but one I’m really looking forward to.

Thanks for letting me know that one of these is out there being saved. I was giving up hope that any might still exist. Would be great is you could share some more details or pictures so I can see which one is being saved
Thanks
I have finally managed to discuss this with my Dad.
I didnt think I recognised your number plate and the image online was too low quality to get any details from so I wanted to check. He confirmed that your car is indeed an early model and predates his involvment.
This would have been built by Specialist Performance Mouldings in Gloucester pre 1994.
Best of luck with your project and it would be great if you can share the progress on here.

Hi there. A little bit late to this thread but we have just had a balero come into our workshop for some restoration . An internet search pulled up your pistonheads thread so I thought I would reach out to see if you still have interest in the cars.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Regards
Mike

Afternoon,
Great to see another of these being restored, Still not managed to get my hands on one.
Unfortunately the company is long since gone but I have messaged my Dad (Last company owner / original builder) to see if he can tell me where the rear lights were sourced from.
I'll let you know
