Hi there, does anyone have any experience or thoughts on swapping out a Pinto for a MX5 drivetrain. It would be for a NG Henley roadster, which I use as my daily car. Power isn’t the main consideration, as I tend to pootle around in it, but I do reasonable mileage, and I’d like a 5 speed box. Type 9s are getting expensive, and I seem to be able to get an MX5 engine and gearbox for not that much more money. Might also add some power and/or improve economy.....

Does it rotate in the same direction as the Pinto (clockwise from the front)? Not all Japanese engines do.

A quick Google suggests it is clockwise so it'll be compatible. Most Hondas are anticlockwise it seems...

I've seen cars on the road using the MX5 engine and box with a sierra diff, so it should be ok
