hi so I have a kit car ive been working on. it has a pinto engine in it 1.6l don't know what car its out of, my first time working on a kit car build from scratch. I have no wiring whatsoever. is there anyone that can shine some light on re wiring the whole thing from engine to lights etc. im not the best at wiring but I can do minor bits but some input from others will give an idea on what I need to do.

looking for mostly engine side of it to the ignition. I guess the lights and stuff is in the end.

You could get hold of the wiring diagram for a Caterham/Lotus Seven (available from many sources), or a Haynes manual for an older, Pinto-engined car, but if it's on carbs and clockwork ignition, the basic engine wiring is the same regardless of engine.

Alternatively, buy this book, which I can recommend as a good basic guide.

Alternatively, join the Locostbuilders Forum, where you'll be able to get good advice on all aspects of your build.

What are the letters at the start of the engine number ? that will give you the year and month the engine was built, which may give you some guidance as to what car it came from.

so ive just come across a box with the loom in it, but most wires being chopped and not labelled makes it a nightmare to connect them to the right place which is why I was thinking of re wiring the whole thing from battery to fusebox to coil etc

i have a pinto 1.6 with the standard distrubutor and coil nothing electronic. ive wired up as much as i can so far but need some help on what extra bits i need to add etc.
on the ignition coil ive got the negative terminals connected to 1. distributor 2. to the rev counter

on the pos+ terminal ive got a wire directly going to the universal key terminal (IGN)

from the starter ive got a small hex nut with a wire coming directly to IGN terminal on the key too, theres also a spade connection on the starter which is directly connected to (ST) on the key. and the big nut obviously connected directly to the positive side of the battery.

is there any relays or fuses needed going in between these and which ones and where will they need to be connected??
and how would i go about wiring a new fuse box ...
the accessories i should be okay withsmile

The starter should have one big wire to the battery, one small wire to the start position on the ignition switch. Dunno where you've found a 3rd wire from.

No offence op, but you don't really sound like writing is your thing... Where did the engine come from originally? There must be a diagram for it somewhere impress it's a custom loom. Even then there's ways and means.

3 wires on a pinto starter is correct.
