Caterfield SV a like...£14k max
Discussion
I have a Westie (2-litre Zetec with Piper cams and Jenvey throttle bodies, Raceline sump and water rail, Protech shocks and Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheel with Toyo R1R tyres, plenty of carbon bits for some bling / weight saving)
I wish I had a Caterham, but not to the point where it would have had to spend at least twice as much money for the same power and running gear
The Westie is going to be just as good as the Caterham in 95% of situations and will only fall short round a track or in pub bragging rights
As far as I'm concerned, I'm going 95% as quickly and looking 95% as good as a Caterham for less than half of Caterham money, so for a Yorkshireman, I'm pretty happy

Not all Caterham owners are snobs! Having said that, the first kit I built was a Westfield SEi Wide in 1990, and I do admit my home built Caterham is a kit car and not a "component car".
Unless you want to spend ridiculous money on a Caterham, you have to buy the narrow version with a smaller engine. I'm happy with a S3 1.6 120bhp, but if you want 2 litres and 180-200 bhp, definitely buy a £14000 Westfiled rather than a £30000 SV Duratec.

Can anyone tell me how a Westy wide body compares to the SV in terms of cabin space ?
I’m 6’4 and no shrinking violet ,but I have comfortably driven an SV with leather seats and lowered floor.
What I don’t know is how the Westy version compares .....
I’ve driven a pinto Westy but that had the posh Westy seats and std floor - barely any room for me and really viable .
As much as I would prefer a Cat (looks better for starters imho) , it would appear a higher spec Westy for less cash is the way to go ?
