They had a reputation for excellent road manners. Not surprising as it's an early Jeremy Philips design. I had a couple and still own the jigs, molds and production rights. I loved both of mine. Yes not pretty, but they both went well and were relatively easy to live with (when I was a younger man!)

I always thought the Leader had a certain charm to its styling, certainly not the ugliest kit car. Not as nice to look at as the Striker/Phoenix, Fury, Stylus or J16 though
I sort of agree - the Leader's design is at least coherent, unlike so many other original design kits. And let's face it, Sevens aren't exactly pretty, are they? They look "right" and certainly purposeful, but you don't buy any Seven for its looks - same could be said about the Leader.
even the successor, the sylva-striker, is not so accepted within the seven-guys.....why? as it does not follow the mainstream desing of "a typical seven must look like that..."
this said...the striker has a very good reputation for its road behaviour and it is/was a very successfull trackcar / 750ies car., hence the positive reputation...but still not for his "external" design.
