Anyone know what happens if you present a car for IVA with a pair headlights that have no "E" marking?

My understanding of the current requirement and the 3 April 2018 change is that only "Gas Discharge" and "LED" headlamps are required to be "E" marked.
Car to be IVA'd is a GT40 replica ....... although this won't be for quite some time!

What headlights are you planning to use?? I'm on my third set (Buy them when I see them) and despite all being different they have all been E marked...

Either way I think you're just asking for trouble, the manual is pretty clear on these things and the last thing you want to do is give the tester any more reasons to to fail your car than they will find find on their own hehe

I know what you mean Paul. Don't want to upset the tester.

However, requirements 1 to 8 make no reference to E marking being required.
Requirement for E marking is no.9 and this is clearly preceded by "Gas Discharge" or "LED".
I don't believe that a standard H4 bulb falls into either category - which means E marking isn't actually a requirement for all headlamps.

The ones I'm chasing are OE standard replacements purchased "not from China".
As long as the beam pattern meets OE requirement then I don't see an obvious problem.

Until the gas discharge bit came in the only light that 'had' to be E marked was the rear for (and still is required).
All the others are covered by the bit in sect. 20 saying lamps not marked should emit light of a similar brightness of a marked lamp. It then goes on to say headlights should not be compared for brightness but should emit sufficient light to illuminate the road in front of the vehicle.

I would be surprised if any headlight you buy would not be marked anyway.

As Steve says. Only the fog light has to be E-marked. Headlights have to comply with the beam pattern and other requirements.
IME the testers aren't out to find dubious reasons to fail you, quite the opposite in fact. Stick to the letter of the manual, they will do the same.
I used photon projector headlights which aren't E-marked, so do many others, and had no trouble at all.

Thanks guys.
You've pretty much confirmed what I thought was the case.

The units I'm looking at are specifically stated as not having an "E" mark but that they are an original spare part from the original supplier.
They also state that they're a reproduction part as well!
I'll give it a go and take the chance.
