Hi guys,

Looking at adding an ac cobra to the stable as it’s a car i always loved as a child.

My budget is around £50-60k and I don’t mind how old the car is.

Looking on auto trader there seems to be a lot at the £50k mark but the age/mileage vary wildly. Is this just a standard price they all put? Or is there a dream spec that makes older car worth the same as much newer ones?

I have an exige 350 as my track car so this is for sunny days and cruising. I would like it to be American powered and I love the 427.

Not fussed on it being 100% true to the original. Love the dax and ak cars.

Which makers/builders have the best reputation? Which have the best reliability? Do they all use similar parts?

One that has good handling and good brakes is a must so I can enjoy a hoon but reliability is key as I don’t want something that’s constantly being repaired.

I have tried to join cobra club but after 48 hours they still haven’t added me so I can post a thread.....

They all seem to have rear exhausts....for me it has to have side exhausts.

Where would I see second hand cars or does my budget buy new from them?

If you are happy to go with a dealer then try total head turned, or hallmark cars.

I bought mine off THT and then later sold to Hallmark.

Yes you pay more but they've been nothing but helpful and have been around years, useful if like me you front have any experience of cobra replicas of American v8s

Speak to Cheng at Thunder Road Cars, www.thunderroadcars.com. They are based in Cheshunt, just north of London.

To be fair, you will pay a LOT more.

Whilst recognising that they are trying to make a living in a very specialised niche of the market with low volumes/turnover of stock, the two companies mentioned are notorious among enthusiasts for their highly speculative pricing.

You will usually save yourself a 5-figure sum by looking elsewhere.

I'd be looking at Absolute Horsepower who build Crendons, Dave Brookes aluminium bodied very close replicas, AK or GD for a factory build.

Post the same question on www.cobraclub.com and you may get an offer or two of completed cars.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi,
As a Dax cobra owner this is my opinion.
No matter witch kit it is,drive the car you are going to buy.
No 2 Cars drive the same, especially when they where home build.
Some are rather poor in handling.
I hear good things about Dave Brooks
Greetings

Thanks guy, I think the balance is finding a dealer that gives a good warranty and has a good reputation for a) honouring said warranty and b) a workshop that has ocd when it comes to doing the work.

Anywhere in surrey you know of tha fits the bill?

Sovereign seem to have good stock but there reviews seem questionable at best.

For £50k what sort of car should I expect in terms of age/mileage?

Want to go on cobra club but it’s now 4 days and they still haven’t added me despite verifying my account via email so can’t post anything.

Not sure how good they are but a Hawk 289 is less than that for a new car I think.

No probs, no sign of batmobile though (which is odd if you got the validation mail). Can you try again and see what it does?

Tks

Ignore me! Found you. System says it’s waiting to be validated (ie waiting for the return of the validation mail by you) - have you clicked/validated/sent (or whatever is required)

Cheers

Very odd, I’ll ping the site owner as there’s nowt I can see/do so he’ll probably have to override the setting manually

Yes if you must have a copy then Hawk are streets ahead, you will regret side exhausts, trust me I have seen many a burnt leg courtesy of them on genuine AC's.

A mate is about to sell his Crendon with a 7.0 V8 within your budget

You'd struggle to find a better one - TotalHeadturners tried to buy it from him last year

He's based near the NEC, if you're interested PM me
