Hi all,

I'm writing to enquire what people do, or have done, with regards to wiring looms for their cars.

I'm building a Mk2 Escort for Road and Race, and plan on replacing the entire loom from front to back, as the Ford loom is crumbling to dust. Since the car will be heavily modified, a straight replacement isn't ideal either.

I'm happy to undertake a lot of wiring and the design of the loom myself, however if there were a good quality and cost effective starting point on the market I'd be interested to hear of peoples experiences.

Really looking for something where the hard work at the fuses, relays and flashers is already done, and the challenge is predominantly routing, sleeving, switching and terminations.

Have a look at Car Builder Solutions. They do a board with everything attached, you just run the wires.

Hi Matt,

If you Google
“Simtek UK Body Control Module Ian Stent”
you will find his useful article on modern tech wiring from Simtek UK.

I did something similar. It’s just great being able to use any stalk switches you like – not having to use a flasher relay – etc. It took all the hassle out of my project and enabled the use of many modern car features.

Thanks both.

Really interesting stuff.

That Car Builders site has some handy stuff.

Any idea what the quality of their kit is like?
