Hey guys,

I’ve got a little MGB GT that I’ve modified with a Mazda Mx5 engine, sweet little thing. At the time I fitted a rushed wiring loom (a bit of crap job) that I made with some left over parts I had laying about. The car has now slowly become my daily driver and I’m wanting to fit something proper these Christmas holidays.

I’m looking to fit all of the relays and fuses in the engine bay so would prefer something waterproof. I’ve managed to find several fuse boxes and relay stuff (but nothing waterproof), does anyone know of anything? Also does anyone know of any decent power distribution boxes?

The ideal solution would be a waterproof relay/fuse box with an internal bus bar that can distribute power, sounds simple enough but I can’t find anything in the UK!

Have you looked at the 12 circuit module for sale at 'car builder solutions' it's quite pricey but if it's what you want it could be worth it
I'm thinking of building my own loom for my current project, I don't know if I'll be buying one myself.

Yeah, I looked at it but it doesn’t seem much in terms of power distribution or being waterproof. To be honest, I’m not even sure to what degree it actually needs to be waterproof. I suppose it’s more of a safeguard for when washing the engine bay.

id try my hardest to mount the relays inside the car if at all possible...one less thing to worry about then

Yeah, that’s where they are at the moment. They sit behind the dash, but it’s a pain to get to them if a fuse blows and it meant I now have no glovebox space.

How about one of these! I knew I'd seen it somewhere.

Have you considered a smart wiring system? Doesn't need fuses or relays. I saw a kit car being wired with one and I was astonished at how simple it seemed to be. It MIGHT be http://www.smart-wiring.com but then again, it might not be!

I'd be wary of using any of these. It's not a certified solution and the failure mechanism to exceptionally high over current is usually to fail circuit closed, which is nice if you like a fire.

Thermal fuses, much more reliable.

The smart wiring seems clever but rather expensive.

And no space where the battery fits for one of those distribution blocks.

I may try source a Mazda MX5 wiring loom and then chopping it up to remove the fuse boxes. It’s a nice little distribution box the Mx5 has, I just know it will be an absolute pain trying to trace all of the wires.
