Hi all,

I've bought an old westy it doesn't have a wiring loom and I remember reading on another forum about some instructions on how to make your own I would really like to have a go at this. Any schematic diagrams, cables and fuse ratings etc and helpful hints will be greatly appreciated. I think if I make the loom myself I can eliminate any superfluous wiring not needed for a very basic car.

Likely to have the following;

• Rear lights
• Fuel tank
• Front lights
• Engine starting
• Dashboard to have a basic bike sort of (LED / LCD) display
• No heating, ECU, ICE,

Thanks in advance

Is this car already registered?
If not and it needs to go for IVA then there are quite a few more functions you will need to wire in.

Hi Steve, should have said yes the car is already registered, the running gear has been removed along with the wiring loom and all gauges. Its a rolling chassis for which I have an X-Flow engine, it's an old narrow chassis. The idea is to rebuild it as a basic car with a basic engine.

The Westy should be simple enough. I did my own for my Locost. You don't need that many circuits so just lay the wires roughly where they need to go, terminate them and wrap the loom. It does help if you know how stuff works like the hazard lights and ballast resistor for the coil but any wiring diagram for an Escort with a crossflow will help.

As has been said the wiring will be quite basic and diagrams have been posted.
You could take that diagram into your garage and draw out the shape of the car on the garage floor along with the position of everything you need to wire.
From this you can work out how much of each wire colour you need to buy (approx 35 different colours) you will then need to do some more research to work out what gauge each of those wires should be to carry the circuit current.

Or, where I am trying to lead you.

Buy a loom from Westfield....At £419.58 including VAT. It will be time and money well spent.

Shindha,

Is you car the Pre-lit?

I sold my X-flow and Delorto's to a chap called Shindha who had a pre-lit. But this was around the year 2000, if it is you are you still building the same car??

Hi Bronco a very good chance you did as not many Shindha's about, that was a pre-lit as well that was running after engine swap. Didn't use it much for 3 years decided to sell it, as we (me and son) are building a wide bodied one as well (7 years and counting -no rush).

I missed the pre-lit so decided to buy another one, this one came along already registered but stripped off all running gear, bought it with the hope of putting my own mark on it. Some one else was selling an engine...........and so on.
.
Was you based in Sutton Coldfield at that time? What you driving now cause I think you sold your westy and bought a Ferrari
