So excluding waiting on delivery/funds/availability for parts or a 3rd party, such as an engine rebuild or paint job, or interruptions caused by work/life, what was the single longest bit of the build process for your car?

Waiting on delivery.
I know you said "excluding" but it took nearly five years to get all the parts from the kit supplier, hard to overlook.

What kit was it and why did it take so long?

Electrics would have been my guess as to the longest bit of the build, good to hear that confirmed.

I didn't want to assume it was that kit that was the problem, shocking wait time, I think I would have walked.

Multiple attempts getting it through the SVA test...mostly caused by the throttle body kit turning out to have some incorrect settings in the ECU.

That and multiple attempts at getting an gearbox mount bracket right...long story!

Making a complete set of new body panels for my UVA.

I had to source used ones, repair them, take moulds from the repaired panels then make the new ones from the moulds.

For the rear bodywork (not shown) I had to make my own plugs before taking moulds.

Foolishly, I paid a deposit, then the remainder when the kit was delivered. It wasn't until I started putting it together that I realised I had parted with all the money for half the parts.
Ho hum, I got there in the end.
