Got me a new toy
Westfield Sei (Narrow body, Independant Rear Suspension), jet black with cycle wings.
Set of 13" 5 spoke Revolution Alloys with Avon Turbospeed tyres plus a set of 14" Minilight alloys with little used slicks.
Connaught 1600 X-flow 145 Bhp
Twin 45 Webbers (suck, suck, suck !)
Dry Sumped
RS2000 4 speed box
Limited slip quaife diff.
Discs all round
RAC roll bar
Sports seats, harnesses, electric pull off switch
Quick rack, etc etc
Was built by the first owner as a hillclimb car in 1990, but didn't no much competition work, then just sat around for most of the 90's (MOTs to prove)
Engine was built by Connaught, blueprinted, lightened balanced crank and conrods, fancy pistons, yadda yadda. Two dyno tests, one at 142 bhp, a later one at 145 bhp (at 6?00 rpm), 133 lbft torque at 5000 rpm. Weighing the same as a couple of bags of sugar, so should be fun
juansolo : thanks for all your previous info, it all came in VERY useful .... thanks I know a Cosworth or whatever engine would have been better, but basically I can't aford the extra 3k or 4k I'd need to get such a vehicle (I can always sell and trade up in the future). Okay, so I was looking for a pinto engined car, but this Connaught built engine is a real sweetie ..... (and seriously loud !)
Will post some pictures when I get back from Italy (off tomorrow to the Ferrari and Maserati factories )
Questions :
The car has no wing mirrors ... NEED wing mirrors ! What do other people fit / use ?
What are the brakes likely to be from on this car, or how on earth would I find out ?

Good effort....you'll have a blast in her.
Brakes first. My experience is only with Caterhams, so if irrelevant, disregard this.
Caterhams have wing mirrors that bolt on/through the side screens on both sides. If, like me, you prefer to drive without side screens, there is a bloke oop north who supplies some that fit onto the side screen hinges of a Caterham windscreen. They are cleverly designed, seconds to fit and bloody well made. If you're interested, I try and get you details/photos.
Again on Caterhams, the brakes are normally Ford Sierra twin-pot calipers. James Whiting (01784 241466) does a fabulous four-pot conversion.
If this has nothing to do with Westies, sorry.

Front calipers, if they are big twin pots, are most likely M16's. Perfectly up to the job of stopping a
Westie. Pads are pretty cheap also at £30 a set from Cat Motorsport and they last forever.

Mine has the small Spa Design jobbies on which are a little too small IMO. They do some bigger ones though. Also checkout Racetech as they're quite nice also. You probably won't need one on the passenger side as you can't see it with the door on anyhow (fine with it off however).
Sounds a very nice car and a top buy. The spec is absolutely spot on for track work. I look forward to seeing the piccies. You will have a LOT of fun with it.
Maybe catch you at a trackday sometime.

They're called M16 calipers. I *think* they are from a Cortina or somesuch (edit - actually what he said directly above me ). Either way they are designed to stop a much heavier car than a 7. We have them on our Vx car with drums at the back and have no issues with them and no intention of changing them.
As for trackdays I can heartily recommend BookaTrack they are the only people I use due to the very strict policies they have on safety. Also I have rather large stickers down the side of my car advertising them that I'm sure other organisers might take exception to
Go to one of their airfield days, you'll have a top time. If the PPE is ever running again, I'll take you out for a spin should our paths cross.

Re. Wing Mirrors.
Both of my Westies have factory fitted wing mirrors. The posts on the side of the windscreen come in two different varieties. The ones I use have a casting which accepts a wing mirror at the base of the post. I also have some posts without the castings lying around somewhere. I presume these bits are readily available from Westfield.
Have you been over to the factory yet? I don't know where in the Midlands you are, but it's well worth a visit.

Have a Westie with Wing mirrors which I sometimes try to use.
But most of the time I rely on a central mirror stuck to the Windscreen in the top centre position.
This is standard Auto Shop fare and apart from the risk of getting knocked off when getting in and out of the car is your best option.
PS. I assume your car has a windscreen and not an aeroscreen!.
Good Luck you have made the right coice

DavidP .... that email address (for the wing mirrors) bounced ..... are you sure it's the right one ?
Cheers !
Sorry mate, I've just called him and its changed to sevenaccessories@aol.com
The phone number is right though. Good luck with the seals and filter.
(I presume you know the joke where the punch line is "and the mechanic says 'looks like you've blown a seal'. To which the penguin says 'no, no, its just icecream'")
