how has anyone connected flexible brake pipe to the master cylinder, I'm OK at reservoir end but stumped at cylinder end! So could someone point out the glaringly obvious way to do it please? It's a ford master cylinder which has 1/2" outlets in the integral reservoir.

Not quite sure where you want part of the cylinder you want to run the pipes from. You say you are OK at the resevoir end but then say it's got an integral resevoir.
Do you want brake hoses to go to the callipers or hoses from an external resevoir?
Normal fittings are 3/8 or 7/16, half inch seems very large and the biggest fittings I have seen are 7/16 which will go to -3 or -4 hose.

Hi
Sorry about the misunderstanding ( you can see why I need help)

The integral reservoir can't be used because of access problems so I've removed it (It just plugs in).

The outlets on it are 1/2" o.d plus seals which leaves me with two 3/4" holes to fill.

The remote reservoir has two 5/16" outlet pipes so I've used flexi pipe to try and connect to the master cylinder.

The master cylinder is a standard Ford unit and the remote res is from a kit car parts supplier and is being used to pass SVA.

So in short, How can I fill 3/4" holes with flexi pipe which has 5/16" i.d?

The holes could be reduced to 1/2" if I could make use of the seals.

Another question is WHY DO I TAKE THESE THINGS ON??

Kit cars who'd have e'm?

What you need is a new master cylinder with threaded holes for the reservoir pipes....

I don't think you are going to be able to just wedge the pipes in as the resevoirs were. I take it you have no threads on the inlet side of the master cylinder. I use Girling, Willwood or AP racing cylinders and they all have 7/16 unf threads so it is easy to plumb the pipe work into them. You could try contacting your kit car supplier who will have come across the same problem. BTW is the master cylinder a tandem one? I.E. one split lines for front and rear. What car is it you are building?
If you want to see problems then look at this www.tkracing.co.uk/rebuild2004.asp it has to be on the road in 3 weeks for my first race this year and the last picture is as it is today.

Hi again

The master cylinder is a tandem one.

The car I'm building is a Haldane 100, Healey 100 replica using all Ford running gear fitted under a small bonnet, Hence the access problem.

Ferg, Falcemob, are these master cylinders you mention available?, If so where from and are they a direct replacement? (I think I'm asking for too much there aren't I?).

If I was trying to do the job on yours falcemob we would be talking years not weeks!, Its not that I'm slow, I'm VERY slow

BTW I bought the car part built and if you think I'm having problems you should have seen the ones being built into it by the previous owner, things like re-using the brake pipes!!, trying to mate Ford calipers to Vauxhall Flexis!,I kid you not.

The cylinders I mentioned are readily available. Wilwood do an adapter to connect remote resevoirs but it may not fit your cylinder It is a plastic cover held on by a jubilee type clip. Rally design www.rallydesign.co.uk/ are the stockists, try and get a catalogue as it gives tips as well. Do you have a Demon Tweaks catalogue? They are one of the best stockist of all parts. You won't need an AP cylinder (very expensive but excellent quality) so Girling or Wilwood will suffice.
As for direct replacement, I doubt it. You have obvously not had the car long. Nothing fits on kit cars, you have to adapt or make everything. My car was bought as a part finished project and I ended up re-starting from scratch to get it done.
Sorry to be so negative and not more helpfull but without seeing pictures of anything it is difficult to know what parts you have and what they look like.

Hi Hal.
Call Dax on 01279 442661. They use a remote reservoir with a Ford master cylinder and make push in hose tails. The are machined the same as the std. reservoir fitment and take a push on rubber hose.
