Whats the crack with buying a ready built Kit? I do not have the time, or space, or Inclination to build one myself.

But If looking at ready built examples, what should I look out for? I have around £5000 to spend, Will I get a Tiger for that money? Although I really Like the Fisher Fury.

Want it for track and weekend Pub Runs so needs to be reliable and off a shovel.

Thanks

I'd have thought you'll be able to pick up an 8v engined (probably Crossflow) Fury for that sort of money, possibly in need of a bit of tidying. There are a couple on Fisher's website for <6k anyway. I had a quick crawl over a rather nice blue demonstrator at Stafford last weekend, they are cracking looking cars. I'm looking at building a Seven type now, but it's certainly something I'd consider in the future.

There are lots of Tiger models and I'm not really sure about their used value, but at a rough guess I'd say a good Pinto car or a 16v (Zetec maybe) needing a bit of work.

I'm not actually a kit owner yet (soon though hopefully!), but I'd say reliability is down mainly down to how well built it is and how well you look after it. It will need closer attention than a normal car, if you're prepared to give it that you should be fine.

I think quick comes as standard with either of your choices, given they weigh next to nothing

I recently sold my Pinto engined Tiger for £5000, it was IMO a good motor, so yes you can get a Tiger for that money.

A fair few of Fury's up for sale at any one time. The crop up every month if you subscribe to the right mailing lists. £5000 is about the bottom end of the market and good BEC cars with high performance are nearer to the £10k mark.

Have a look at the Syvla group on Smartgroups and the BEC list on Yahoo!. I'm currently building a Fisher Fury R1 myself.

Just consider this - when you buy a regular second hand car most of the problems you are likely to encounter are either manufacturers design flaws or moody previous repairs.

So when you consider the whole thing has been built up by someone who likely doesnt do this everyday, you have to be 100% sure they arent a bodger.

The sun is out here and kit prices are rising as the temperature. I was in the same position this time last year after Detling. Wanted a car but no time (or inclination) so bought a Tiger direct from them. Not sure what £5k will get you on the second hand market -definitely look at Kitcar mag for ideas. It's the old adage (you get what you pay for). By paying £5k you might get a start but you'll end up paying for the bits that will make it better over time. Bite the bullet.
