If I were to buy a Westie with an X-flow or Pinto engine, how easy would it be to get a Zetec or XE fitted? Would the gearbox etc. need changing from what's there already?

cheers

It should be quite easy. The Zetec exhaust exits on the opposite side to the Pinto. Engine mounts will need changing. The gearbox may need a new bellhousing depending on type. Tiger are offering a complete kit for about £900. That is to go form Pinto to Zetec.

What about Duratec???

Well worth the change though. The Zetec and VX lumps are so much sweeter.

Duratec would be really good, but I've only got around £9000 to spend all in. I'm sure there were loads more Zetec engine'd Westfields for sale last year for around that price, can't seem to find any in good condition now though

...So, I was thinking of either waiting until closer to summer to see if many more come up for sale, or maybe buy one with an engine I don't want and get it converted. Just trying to work out which would be the cheaper option.

you should be able to pick up a Zetec car for 9k.Look on the westfield site, cars come up quite regulary. If you want a x flow car and want to change it over,it's not as cheap as you think. The bellhousing is the same, and so is the clutch. The sump needs to be changed and manifolds, electronics installed for ignition and the list goes on.My car was a CVH engined car and the previous owner changed it to a focus Zetec. With an Emerald ECU and throttle bodies and lots of Raceline bits,he didn't get much change from 4k.The engine only cost £400 and that was for a 3k mile lump too.Bets bet is to be patient and something will come up.I did have to travel 280 miles to buy mine,so be prepared for travlling and cash under the mattress at home,as a good one will go quickly.Good Luck

Yeh I'm a member of the Westfield Sports Car Club and I look on their site pretty often, but the turnover of cars for sale on there has been pretty low over the last 4 months or so. Ah well
