Morris Kilo - Anyone know anything about them?
Discussion
Hi. I have just been offered a Morris Kilo (1980's) kit car in need of restoration. Based on Morris Minor. Looks solid and all there. Tatty tonneau but no hood. Engine spins but doesn't run. Has normal Morris Minor engine fitted apparently. Initial research shows only 14 ever made and 4 known survivors. This one doesn't appear in any photos I have seen so guessing is a new find as it were? Last on road in 2011 I believe. Is it worth saving if only from a rarity perspective? Safe to say it's not the prettiest car!! Any idea of current value and value once vaguely restored? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Regards.
I very vaguely remember this one - vintage style replica, sort of somewhere between the NG TA and the Reliant Kitten-based Tempest, but not as pretty or well-resolved a design as either of them?
Given that a decent NG TA, JC Midge, Pilgrim Bulldog or Tempest 850 might be worth around £4K, I'd suggest that the restored value of the Kilo would be similar.
Which means that in the condition you describe at present, it's pretty much worthless - it'll cost more to restore to a decent standard than it would ever be worth.
Maybe offer a few hundred pounds, if you're desperate for amoneypit project to keep you occupied.

I think it a lot more than £500 or will be worth while after its been restored.
The last Morris Kilo was sold around £19000 in 2013 and since there are only 3 or 4 left known to be still exist they are slowing becoming a rare classic.

Put up an advert to sell one and see what the response is? There may be only one person in the World prepared to pay that sort of money for one - maybe it was 17,000 Lire? The last Morris Kilo was sold around £19000 in 2013 and since there are only 3 or 4 left known to be still exist they are slowing becoming a rare classic.

1. You have brought an old thread back to life - the previous posters may have moved on or no longer monitor the thread. The last Morris Kilo was sold around £19000 in 2013 and since there are only 3 or 4 left known to be still exist they are slowing becoming a rare classic.

2. The link you have posted only shows an offer of sale, it doesn't give any idea of a transaction price.
3. Rarity only increases value when demand is present. Just because there were only a few made, doesn't make it worth more; in the case of kit cars, it usually shows lack of take up by the market, or poor performance by the kit producer.
I believe the Kilo was exquisitely and made well and simple with the well know morris engine that was known well to be durable.
The only sport kitcar to ever carry and still house the morris engine and chassis.
Only 14 made.
It's a future classic.
A well restored one was advertised for £19000 5 years go and I bet you even in the worth case for a fully restored one it wouldn't have sold for anything less than £15000 and this was 5 years ago.
A lot was not made because it was made specially and unique to be the morris sport not because it easy not good.
The only down side was with the older morris engine it struggled to be nippy but with the new only it carries it's 595kg body weight easily.

The advert you link to shows an asking price of €17,000, this is £14,500 at current exchange rates, it was £13,500 in 2014 exchange rates.Scrump said:

I'd put it in the same category at a JC midge or a Tempest. Not worth much at all, but fun to own and drive out on sunny days none the less.

"The only sport kitcar to ever carry and still house the morris engine and chassis." - NOT TRUE, it does not use the chassis from a Minor, and lots of cars used the BMC 'A' series engine
Only 14 made. - Doesn't make it worth more
"It's a future classic." So you say, but I disagree.
"A well restored one was advertised for £19000 5 years go and I bet you even in the worth case for a fully restored one it wouldn't have sold for anything less than £15000 and this was 5 years ago." - This is pure fabrication; as a previous poster has said, the advertised price was less than you say, and there is no proof of the actual sales value.
"A lot was not made because it was made specially and unique to be the morris sport not because it easy not good." - I appreciate that English may not be your first language, but I'm still working on the meaning of this.
It appears to be a reasonably attractive sports style car based on the Morris Minor. What actually makes it special?
I do not have one but wish to have .
Looking for someone selling one .
Morris has announced a new car that will be out 2020, its a 1940 looks bus but it's electric.
So morris minors will be back on the roads soon and having one of their sport car isn't a bad idea because it's a well respected name in England and they are known to be unbreakable that's why I want one in my collection and soon they will be going up in value so grabbing a classic isn't a bad idea lol
