I will go the factory built route as I have no spare time.

I want it to be fast round a track and ok to live with...

budget is £20k ish.

should i go bike power or car power?

looking forward to the responses...

also, factory built cars start at £22k... but surely that would be alot slower than the cars on my list?

True. How about a 5000 mls car for £14500 on the GTM Cars site........

Well, probably, but those are all a chassis with an engine, if you want a track car then the Menace looks good. I have to admit I always recommend the Libra as a matter of course!!

Libra supplies you with quiet, watertight cabin and room to stow loads of luggage too!!

If its a weekend blast you want to take on the track maybe sometimes. I would go for say : Nice Westfield. A very Nice R6/B6 tiger or something along those lines. Not comfy but very rewarding to drive.I have a Zetec SuperCat Tiger myself.

Bike engines sound great but too many people I know who have then in a kit don't have them too long. Just not easy to live with. noisey and a blob to drive

or if you want looks then a Dax cobra.

Or as other have siad a Libra if you want a bit of both

Well, the Libra is one of the best made kitcars I've ever seen. It looks like a production car and is a totally orginal design (unlike Se7ens, Cobras etc). You can use it everyday too

I've got a Tiger Cat which is great for weekends and trackdays, but I wouldn't want to use it everyday (no roof!)

Another vote for the Libra. I must admit I am slightly biassed (like Ferg). After owning a Westfield I am looking forward to driving my Libra. The Westfield is a very good & nice car too, but they have high depriciation. A Westfield is not practical, I did not buy it for practicality, but for fun.

Some people use a Libra as a every day car, which seems reasonably possible. I have a Libra for fun and a occasional trackday.

Factory built? £20k?? didnt know that was possible?

how well do they go on track (bit heavy?)

Also, Libra sounds pretty good, but just not sure on the looks...

someone said bike engines were 'a blob' to drive... what does that mean exactly? gonna be doing some test driving soon (around town) so should find out it I can live with it...

so many questions!!! difficult to make up my fuddled little mind

Not to be left out here. . .

What about a Marlin 5exi?

Honda power will be a little over budget I think, but Rover 'T' series turbo will give you around 400bhp / tonne.

How about this: www.turner-auto-design.com/thelmp.htm

Factory built: £21,995 inc VAT (entry level)

Takes any engine you can think of, up to a V8.

if the K1 Attack ever makes these shores, indeed is ever made, then that would be a great choice.

At the moment you have the GTM Libra/Spyder or hows about something mildly different to the standard CaterFields in the guise of a Toniq R?

If you want to spend £20k and get most of it back when you sell then get a Caterham. Well made, quick, MASSIVE support network, very active owners club. Bike power is a pain in the backside for road use, if you are not doing loads of track days coventional engine is much better.

£20k could get you an early R300 and that was Evo trackday car of the year when it came out. Very tractable road car as well. Oh and they sound LOVELY too.

The Caterham is original it is just that so many others have copied it!

why? what is it about bike power that makes it difficult? I know they are loud, but I like loud.

Any other reasons?

Another nod towards the K1 Attack, if it ever makes it through SVA, and onto the UK roads that is:

www.dynamic-performance.co.uk/html/index.shtml

but no reviews I trust yet, but I haven't looked in a while after getting bored of waiting for it to be released.
