I am angry !!!

I arranged to view a R1 engined MK today at midday today - it is in classifieds.

I had booked and prepaid for a return flight Aberdeen to Luton, overnight hotel and hire car, I received a text from the owner yesterday - fortunately before I got on the flight - telling me he had sold the car!

I do not think this is the way business should be conducted !

I am several hundred pounds out of pocket and extremely pissed off !

Rant over.

CT.
Sympathy. I cant believe the seller didn't even have the spine to ring you direct!! Having prepaid for the excursion I think I may have used the option to tell him so

Two sides to this story though....

Did he agree to "hold" the car for you until you arrived to view or not????

If so, he is in the wrong.....

If not, it's tough titty i'm afraid, the first to come up with the money gets the prize....

I have lost count of the number of times people have messed me about when I have been selling cars, telling me they are setting off now, etc, and never shown up.......

I can imagine you are not best pleased though.....

I didn't even ask him to 'hold' the car for me, the fact that I was travelling over 400 miles to see the car and had even arranged to arrive around midday to allow him to recover from a night out, I considered that we had an arrangement.

However it is done and I will look for another car, I still hope someone does something similar to him someday though !

I'd agree you have a right to assume he'd hold it....

I got stung the other way by a guy who flew in from Germany to view my Ultima.... wanted the car etc etc... turned out to be a tyrekicking timewaster who gave me the run around.

Aye, the point here is that the guy knew fine that the travel arrangements had been made - so no need for an agreement to hold it.

Still, every cloud has a silver lining. CT and I can now meet for our usual Sunday night pint.

Well, I remember many years ago, when I had a Morgan plus 8 for sale, Myself, Mrs WR. and our (then) three young boys were getting ready one Sunday to have a day out in Blackpool, when the phone rang, and it was somebody from Birmingham (120 miles away) who said he wanted to view the car, and was leaving in five minutes......

Of course, I took him at his word, cancelled the outing, much to everybody's displeasure, and guess what???, he never turned up.....

Result:- one wasted Sunday and very unhappy Mrs WR and kids..

I will NEVER make the same mistake again, there does not seem to be any way round this though, there always has to be an element of trust between the buyer and seller......

Indeed we can Numptie

It is a pity this happened as most kit car owners I have met seem to be a good helpful bunch, but next time I will make it clear that unless there is an agreement that the car will be held, I will not be travelling - in hindsight (of which mine is 20/20) I should have got the seller's agreement that he would hold the car, however as stated earlier I didn't think it necessary.

Pints later then Numptie..
