My car is booked in for an MOT this week and the speedo isn't working -I have looked on the VOSA site at components tested and the speedo isn't there (see site below). I obviously want to get it sorted but will the car pass with the speedo not working ??

Cool

I will try to get one working before the test but if I don't have time then it should be OK.

I will just add, that I "assist" during my MOTs and know the tester. He's never checked the speedo, except to take the current milage from it.

Just make sure the mileage not identical to the last time or tester might get suspicious.
I watched them MOTing the GD427 a few years ago, no speedo test - they just poke around underneath and do a brake check on rollers. There was no road test. Only SVA stations have the fancy rollers for checking speedo I believe.

What about insurance?.....

If on a limited mileage policy, Kit car insurers usually ask for your speedo mileage reading, my insurer (Adrian Flux, agreed value policy) required a PHOTOGRAPH of the speedo reading, when taking out the cover initially..............

Speedos are not tested on an MOT (they are on SVA).

It is a legal requirment to have a constant display of speed while traveling. A push bike unit will do this.
It is not a requirment to record milage. This is purely used to follow the life of the vehicle for such purposes of resale or limited insurance cover ect.
