This is me being a bit speculative, but say if you wanted to build one, from the ground up (oh yes), where would you get the chassis diagrams (with all the dimensions), and wiring diagrams, etc.? I'm guessing they're out there somewhere, otherwise, how do the kit-car companies build them? Ben

I can't comment on the current companies producing Countach copies but the first bodyshell was produced by taking moulds off a real car.

The car used was hired for the weekend, hurredly covered in fibreglass which was prised off before it was ready. When returned the original car needed a full respray, which was not payed for by the rip off merchants who hired the car. Shells produced from this mould had roofs that sagged more then an inch when compared with a real one. The shells available now are much improved.

The Gearbox on a real Countach is in front of the engine, not behind like most other mid-engined supercars.

Without getting into a debate into building a replica because you can't afford the real thing here are a couple of links for you.

Bodyshell: you are better off buying one from an established manufacturer that trying to make your own. The time and effort required to make one from scratch would make it cheaper to buy an original.

Chassis: the replicas don't have copies of the original chassis. As flossy said, the original has the gearbox in front of the engine, so unless you are going to get hold of a genuine engine and box, the original chassis wouldn't work, anyway.

If you're planning on a technically accurate replica under the skin, you are going to end up buying so many Lamborghini parts that the cost would be many times that of buying a complete, original car. Unless, of course, you have your own foundry and machine shop and are planning to copy all the castings for engine, gearbox and suspension components?

Wiring diagram: You're taking the piss, now, right? You shouldn't even be daydreaming about a project of this complexity if you need somebody else's wiring diagram to show you how to do it!

Do yourself a favour...buy a kit, or an original. Designing and building one from scratch is just plain crazy...
