Am thinking of putting my battery inside the car, but are you aloud to under the SVA Reg's ??? The car is a Closed Coupe, does that make a difference....

Yes battery can go inside.

Common place (like TVR) is in passanger foot well against the engine bulkhead.

It does of course have to be strapped down.

Don't forget when a battery is charging it gives off gases, so make sure you have a very good breather for it to the outside or you might be coughing quite a lot on those long journey's!!

The gel type used on bikes and in the Ultima should be safe ie no spills and I don't think they gas but could be wrong.

Be extra careful to have a good postive terminal cover and keep any conductor the wrong side of the fuse well insulated. Car batteries can discharge at an alarming rate, and a zip from a coat or something shorting from the live terminal could easily melt a few things.

like a toolbox as i found out with my old mini clubman when there was no cover on the battery in the boot. Went round a corner and the toolbox in the boot moved and shorted out the battery and the car just died

The old mini estate had the battery under the rear passenger seat and wasnt vented outside just sat in battery tray.

Most BMW's have the battery under the rear seat. As already advised, make sure it's securely strapped and vented to the outside.
